I have wanted to work for the Olympics since Beijing was awarded the Games back on July 13th 2001. I didn't after all study Chinese for more than 4 years to give up an opportunity like this! Although I wasn't sure within which capacity I would be able to work for them, I was determined to do something! Anyway back in March 2007 I saw an advert posted advertising a company looking for people to work during the Olympics with them and I knew this was the chance I had been looking for!!! Anyway, to cut a long story short, I applied, found out they were looking to start an Olympic English Training Academy leading up to the Games and they needed trainers. Although it was Games time employment I was more interested in, I knew this was a process that would lead to that and so was REALLY excited when I was offered the job! Over the next few weeks I met the other 8 trainers I would be working alongside with and we all seemed to click really quickly. We are from all over the world, Australia, Austria, Brazil, CANADA , CHINA, GIBRALTAR, Greece, HOLLAND and the UNITED STATES.
Beijing has been preparing thoroughly since 2001 and the venues are AMAZING!!! The main two are the National Stadium a.k.a. The Bird's Nest and the National Aquatics Centre a.k.a. The Water Cube. They are both on the Olympic Green which is in the north of the city and they are a feast for the eyes both day and night when they change from being an architectural wonder to a magnificent light show showcasing their best angles! A lot of fun! There are 11 new competition venues, 11 existing competition venues and 9 temporary competition venues. Some of the events will be held outside of Beijing including Sailing, Football and Equestrianism in 6 different cities. If you would like to find out more info, please go to BOCOG's (Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games) official website.

Hi Victoria, have really enjoyed reading your pages. Your life seems very exciting but very busy!
In case you havent heard: Ian Thorpe has been training for months in an attempt to compete at the London Olympics but did not qualify at last weekends Australian Olympic team trials. Apparently he is going to continue swimming despite his disappointment at not making the team.
Heidi from Melbourne.
Planning a visit to Spain and Gibraltar in May from N. California and your tips have been most helpful. Got a lot more of yours to read but ty so far!
Belated Happy Birthday Victoria. I am off to China again this October and have to work out where I want to go. Thats half the fun of the trip for me. Iam working in bromley these days and stay down there in the week. get very bored at nights so if you want to meet up and talk China over a drink it would be nice. Keith
