December 2008 - Last stops: London and Bavaria

December was quite a busy month for me. A week before Christmas I was 6 days in London on a business trip which was both exciting and interesting at the same time.

After Christmas we finished the year 2008 in Bavaria at the Samerberg, which is a very rural area near the lake Chiemsee just between Munich (D) and Salzburg (A).

November 2008 - 5th Gluehwein VT Meeting Karlsruhe

At the end of November I took part in the 5th Gluehwein VT Meeting in Karlsruhe (D). It was now my 3rd attendance at this fabulous event. This year we were members from Switzerland, Netherlands, England, Italy, Spain and Germany of course.

This meeting usually starts with an evening at the Christmas market and dinner at a local restaurant in Karlsruhe. The second day is reserved of a daytrip to a town in the surrounding area. This year we visited Rastatt with its magnificent castle.

October 2008 - Finally back in France

I must admit that France has never been somewhere near the top of my travel wish list. Of course I have been to Paris and also on a beach holiday near Perpignan many years ago.

Now in October 2008 I was again in France, more by chance than on purpose. Due to overcast weather in Nyon (CH) at the Lake Geneva we spontaneously jumped on a train up to La Cure (CH) in the Jura Mountains from where we crossed the border to France on foot. We then spent the day in Les Rousses, which is a small French town in the Franche-Compté region.

September 2008 - A new country point

In September we explored Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia for two weeks. In Bosnia and Herzegovina we stayed in both Sarajevo and Mostar. On side trips we visited Illidza and Blagaj.

We then left Bosnia and Herzegovina by train to Ploce in Croatia from where we went by bus to Dubrovnik. It was our next homebase and we even met VT member diocletianvs for a relaxing weekend.

After loads of sightseeing we decided for a few days of beach holiday in Bol on the Island of Brac, before our trip ended in Split.

August 2008 - Meeting Swiss VT members

At the beginning of August I took part in a fabulous VT get together in Switzerland. The attendees were babskie, dyesebel, tripack, jameswtc, yumyum and me.

We met in the late morning in Zurich for a quick wander around the old town. A boat trip on the lake Zurich to Rapperswil was scheduled for the afternoon. Then we headed back to Zurich by train where we finished the meeting with a trip on top of the Uetliberg.

Love Parade in Dortmund

July 2008 - Love Parade "Highway to Love"

This year's Love Parade took place in Dortmund, which is located less than 50 km from where I live. So a friend of mine and me had a wander around this colourful event.

The Love Parade originated in 1989 as a sort of political demonstration in Berlin. Nowadays it is more of a commercial mega event, but well worth a visit when being in the area.

In Dortmund one of the busiest streets of Germany was closed for the event and it was said that an estimated 1.6 million people attended the parade.

Before the Italy vs. Romania match in Zurich

June 2008 - EURO 2008 Austria and Switzerland

Being a football fan, this month was of course dominated by the UEFA EURO football championships. We even took the chance to watch two matches in Zurich's Fan Zone. Besides Germany I especially followed the matches of Russia and Romania.

Congratulation to Spain for winning the final against Germany. Well done.
