| Lots of big red engines and smoke |
I'm used to living on my own (which is not to say I like it), and find large gatherings mentally tiring. So I decided to spend Saturday doing a solitary wander, to give myself some headspace and get myself ready for the Saturday night VT bash. I'm not anti-social in the least, I just need time by myself to defrag.
So I took myself off to Durlach in the morning (another travelogue), and then spent the afternoon in the museum wallowing in prehistory (and was pleased to find my German reading skills adequate for the labels).
But I have to admit I'd seen the firemen setting up when I first got to town on Saturday morning. It was thus essential that I spent some of the afternoon enjoying a Weissebier in a Marktplatz cafe, so I could observe their activities at leisure and with pleasure.
I do like firemen.............. :-)) |
| | Fascinating to watch the children go up the ladders and work out which ones would actually make it to the top. Little girls seemed pretty good whilst I was there.............. |
A very large chain-saw (and a pretty large fireman). | | | Big log, big saw, big engine, big man. |
|
| | A very old fire-engine. |
A hot and sweaty fireman putting put a pretend fire. | | |
| Squirting the hoses....... |
| | Playing with their hoses.......... |
.....and playing with a car on the end of a crane. | | | Up and down she goes....... |
|
| | And look! Nothing to do with the firemen but it's yet another man with what seems to be a 'dead ferret' on his head (my second sighting in Karlsruhe). It's not a ferret of course (that's an English Monty Python reference): it's a bit of fox. |
