Canoeing the Pine River in Michigan

by Fullmoonfever - last update: Jun 3, 2008

A little history

Pine River as seen from our camp site.
Every year me and friends canoe the Pine River in Michigan. We have been doing this for 30 years. Sometimes there is a bunch of us and sometimes there only 2, which was the case this year. This year we went on the weekend of May 24th . Thats a little later in the spring than normal.

The Pine River is located west of Cadillac and north of Balwin. For most of the length we canoe the river runs thru Manistee National forest. We had beautiful weather and cold beer! what do can you ask for?
Dobson Bridge

" Put-in" site

This is our traditional Put-in site. It makes for an all day experience on the river.
Sunshine Makes me happy!

Morning sunshine

Campground was full of people and I was the first one up!
Sand Bar

Thank god for sand bars!

We stop often at sand bars. What better place to have a beer and watch other people pass by.
All canoes should be red!

Shade!

By mid-day it was getting hot and we started stopping at locations that offered shade.
Everyone likes to canoe!

Other canoers

Most people put-in at Peterson Bridge. This cuts your trip in half. We usually stop here and have lunch.
Newly green trees

Stair way to Heaven!

Ok, its the stair way from our campsite down to the Pine River, but its heaven to me.
Some where along the Pine.

A random shot along the Pine river.

I don't remember where this photo was taken, exactly.
