The Cat Garden at Belfast Castle Within the Cave Hill Country Park and in the grounds of Belfast Castle you will find a circular Cat Garden which is nicely laid out with a pond in the middle. The name refers to a legend attached to the castle that says it’s residents will only have good fortune provided a white cat lives there. This legend is commemorated in the Cat Garden where there are apparently nine references to cats, some obvious and some hidden. Personally I only spotted seven which you can see below. I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows where the other two are. |
| | . At the bottom of the steps is this topiary (shaped) bush |
| | . The first of two cat mosaics sitting on two corners of the garden |
| | . The second of the two mosaics |
| | . A stone cat sits amongst the foliage |
| | . This stone slab carries a quote by T S Eliot,
Before a cat will condescend To treat you as a trusted friend Some little token of esteem Is needed, like a dish of cream |
| | . A brass cat lies napping by the side of the pond |
| | . I almost missed this image of a playing cat within the ironwork of a bench around the pond |
