Meeting one of my dance heroes - Travis Wall

by fairy_dust - last update: Jun 6, 2009

Don't we make a cute couple? Hehehe...
A dance teacher I know often does workshops called "Broadway Bound" - training sessions for dancers. She often gets guests to come in to teach and some of them were celebrities in the dance world. When I got a message from her saying she got Travis Wall to teach at the next one, I freaked out and signed up right away!

Travis Wall was the second-place winner of So You Think You Can Dance season 2, though he should have won. He mostly dances contemporary but is great at most dance styles. He was one of my favorites on SYTYCD, along with Nick Lazzarini (winner of season 1).

When he came into the room at Broadway Bound, everyone was excited, but when he taught us a class, the mood totally changed. We were completely silent and held on to his every word, just losing ourselves in the dancing. The teacher/director of Broadway Bound was amazed at this - she said you could practically hear a pin drop. We all got so into it and it was one of the highlights of the weekend.

He also did a turning workshop with us. Since he's known for his amazing turns, the teacher/director wanted him to teach us the proper technique for turns. That was a big highlight for us too.

Right before his class started, I had a funny moment too. Since he is one of my inspirations, I was super-starstruck when I met him. As he was searching for music on his laptop, facing the wall, I stood right behind him just gawking at the back of his head with my mouth hanging open. I turned to two of my classmates as if to say "OMG it's Travis!" and they just laughed like crazy! They said my starstruck-ness was one of the funniest things they'd ever seen!
Lookin' sexy
In the showcase at the end of the weekend, we performed his choreography, and he also danced a solo. Apparently, he improvised the whole thing. He is one of the most amazing dancers I've ever seen.

In the end, he signed autographs and posed for pics with us. The top pic was my facebook profile pic for a long time!
