From this balcony of Klaipeda Drama Theater Adolf Hitler congratulated locals for Klaipeda joining to Germany. He spent in Klaipeda aproximatelly two hours on 23 March 1939, he looked at the Memel ( Klaipeda) from the open roof car. Klaipeda name on German time was Memel. Famous German poet Simon Dach has lived and worked in Lithuania. His occasional poem "Anke von Tharaw Oss, de my gefollt" bacame a historical reason to build a Anke ( Anike) sculpture in the main squere of the old town of Klaipeda.

During warm season there are some people selling souvenirs in Theater squere. The most funny for me is Matrioshkas, because it is totaly Russian souvenir, nothing to do with Lithuania. But it seems, that for many tourists Lithuania as independent country is still not existing. Pitty...

On Turgaus street, leading from the main Manto street to Theater squere, you will find tourist information center. They offer nice things, for example biking tour on Kuronian spit.

Only for two years we have information arrows in the Klaipeda city. Growing quantity of cruisers in Klaipeda port was pushing municipality to think more carefully tourist information things. My one of best friends made design of these communications.

The main streets of downtown are renovated recently and very old trees were changed by new ones. Maybe now city looks not so green as we are used, but in few years news trees will get stronger.
