Haedong Yongkung Temple was founded in A.D. 1376 by one of the greatest, venerable monk named Naong who was advisory to King Kongmin at that time.

The original temple was destroyed by fire when the Japanese invaded Korea and the monk, Ungang of Tongdosa, rebuilt the temple in the early 1930's.

I did not like all this racking structure all over the premises of the temple. I'm supposing that when they have festivals, the racks are used to for lights and paper lanterns. When all lit up it probably looks spectacular but when we saw the temple it was very distracting and took away the magnificence of the temple.

I didn't like seeing all the vendors selling souveniers and food as we walked up to the temple. But I guess it's inevitable to capitalize on the opportunity to make some money off tourists.

We saw several worshippers come to the temple. Make sure to wear some good walking shoes because some of the steps at the temple are stones strategically placed. Not all that easy to manuever if you're wearing heels, ladies.
