On the Road to Saksun After arriving in Torshavn, I made my way to Kollafjordur and then to Saksun. |
Saksun The evening I arrived in Saksun, signs of humanity were scarce.. A distant tent, the town's homes with their lights on, no one outside wandering around. At the northwest of the main island in the Faroes (Streymoy), Saksun was like a secretive, mystical place.. Hiking all the way to the sea is well worth the trip: there's a blacksand beach backed by rolling, green, sheep-covered hills to explore. |
Streymoy, take 2 After exploring some of the northern islands, I hitch-hiked back to Streymoy and explored Leynar - Kvivik - Vestmanna. Leynar, situated right by the tunnel to Vagoy, has a stunning beach. The water is cold but not too cold to swim (in my opinion). |
Kvivik There are many towns like Kvivik in the Faroes, comprised of houses and small shops perched on a hillside. Apparently there is some sort of Viking tomb or something in Kvivik, but I didn't find it.. |
Vestmanna Vestmanna is a larger town for the Faroes, and there's even a bar where you can try the Faroese beer! |
