Famous people I have met or seen and some events QEII Queen Elizebeth's visit to the Isle of Wight to my home town Ryde in the '70's. (I just held up my little Union Jack flag and gave her a wave as I saw her driving by and remembered her hand waving in a white glove)
Antony Mingella (Famous Academy Award-winning British film director, playwright and screenwriter. He is currently the chairman of the British Film Institute.) serving me soft drinks and crisps in his dads cafe 'Mingellas' when I was a boy, we used to hang out there sometimes, myself and a few other lads. He went to the same school as me ( Sandown Grammar School) but not the same time as he is 4 years older than me. Jeremy Irons also went to my first all boys school. (Ryde Boys School)
Golda Meir I went to her walkpast of her funeral, well the body was put on display for people to pay their last respects..I was just in Jerusalem the first time and happened to be there when it happened. I remember the hoards of photographers opposite her coffin as people passed by, I took a couple of pictures of them..
Jimmy Carter, Anwar Sadat and Menahim Begin As I was working in the cowshed at one of the kibbutzim I was worked at, Quiryat Anavim. on the main road from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Jimmy Carter, Anwar Sadat and Menahim Begin drove by on the closed off road below on their way to Jerusalem to sign the famous peace agreement which was the peace between Egypt and Israel. I saw them clearly sitting in their limos as they drove by.
Olof Palme Twice.. Once in the Tunnelbana (Metro) at Ostermalmstorg, I asked him for directions to an English pub called the Tudor Arms run by a fellow Isle Of Wighter called Chris Bellows. Second time on the 'Pendeltorg' (Local suburban train) traveling from Kungsángen to T-Centralen, he had been picking mushrooms in the forest with his wife. I asked him for his autograph and explained to him I sort of worked for him as I taught English for ABF, the Workers Education Union, aligned to the Social Democrats. Sadly he was assassinated when coming out of a cinema in central Stockholm, I was on a beach in Goa, India when I heard the news.

Probably people in Kazachstan will not like it. Almost on my way to Ireland for a VT meeting and to Iran by end of the month. As you see, still on the move. | LoriPori Fri Oct 10, 2008 13:29 UTC Thanks for stopping by Tim. I've never heard the expression "the whole world has gone Boratski". If that's kinda like "bonkers" then I agree with you. Lori | giampiero6 Thu Oct 2, 2008 18:19 UTC What the heck does that mean and how is it pronounced ;) |
