These people would never recognise it as the same place to-day. Indeed a number of them are sadly not with us anymore.
One claim to fame for the organisation may be tracked through the local museum. In 1970 and after lots of hard work, a veneer slicer (in contrast to the rotary type), was finally installed, having made an lonely sea voyage from Germany followed by a train trip from Sydney and installation (in the tin temple as it was then known) on the Orlando Street factory. The slicer went into production and demonstrated its fine slice capability in an expo of local businesses in 1970. Pacific Plywood and Timber won the display helped along considerably by the presentation of a dress made out of the sliced veneer that had been designed and created by a local woman.This wonderful achievement opened new doors for the veneer industry in Australia and Coffs Harbour in particular.
