References for Traveling around India

by tayloretc - last update: Feb 27, 2008

I’m going to use this page for travel agents, information sources, and whatever else I have used in getting myself around India. These are how I’ve done it, and how you can do it too.

Tourism Websites

Tamil Nadu

Karnataka

Kerala

Most of the major cities in these areas are reachable for weekend trips from Chennai, although many require traveling overnight.

Travel Agents

Vaasu Travels
They’ve always been accommodating, even on short notice. They handle most of the travel arrangements for the International School in Chennai, and the families whose kids attend. Leslie (man, owner) knows south India pretty well. They won’t book lower than a 3-star hotel for women traveling alone, but will book a berth in regular class of an overnight train.

Pegasus Travels
They’ve booked my international flights, and once a quick, very posh getaway to Sri Lanka. My company uses them for all their corporate travel.

Hotel Bookings

I’ve had good luck with Asiarooms.com in India, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia.
