2007 Travels

by Dabs - last update: Jan 17, 2009

December 7-12, 2007-Aruba

The beautiful beaches of Aruba
The final trip of 2007 was to Aruba, we've been heading to Playa del Carmen in Mexico in December for the last few years but we decided to do something different this year. Aruba has beautiful beaches, aqua bluebath temperature water, no one hassles you to buy anything or take their excursions. Aruba has a lot of repeat visitors, I believe the highest in the Caribbean but for us it was a little on the expensive side and it took a long time to get there since we couldn't find a direct flight. For a few days it was paradise!

York Harbor, Maine

Portsmouth VT meeting, Maine coast

Sept 21-25, 2007

In September 2007, I went to my 1st and only large VT meeting of the year, organized by our awesome hostess EmilieNoelle. After a fun weekend of socializing and eating lobster with the 40 or so VTers that showed up, my good friend Robert (rmdw) and I headed up the Maine coast to Bar Harbor where I proceeded to eat lobster and lobster and more lobster.

Switzerland, France, Liechtenstein

August 10-19, 2007

I was so excited when my husband said he was planning a trip for my birthday in August, he wouldn't tell me where and I think I just about guessed every European country except for the one he chose-Switzerland! But after doing a little research, it looked like my kind of place, what's not to like about cheese and chocolate, mountain lakes and alps? I suppose "planned" is being generous though, he booked the flights and picked the destination but I still ended up booking the hotels, car and the itinerary. I loved Switzerland, could have something to do with fondue and raclette, loved visiting some new towns in France and added Liechtenstein to my list of countries.

Maui sunset

Maui, Las Vegas

July 17-24, 2007

When I made the plans to go to Maui with my good friend Kat (keida84) and her "sisters" Kris and Sally, I had no idea I would be stuck in a cast up to my knee! But it's hard to have a bad time in paradise, I enjoyed the beautiful scenery, the company of good friends, caught up on my summer reading and against doctor's orders, even went snorkeling. I had a very HOT stopover in Las Vegas on the way over, it had to have been over 100F and that was a little uncomfortable in a cast up to my knee.

Lake Bled

London, Venice, Slovenia

May 22-June 5, 2007

As much as I wanted to go to the big VT meeting in Santorini, we decided to plan our own trip to Europe around the same time stopping on either end in London and flying Ryan Air (boo hiss) to Venice, make that an unscheduled stop in Trieste and then a train into Venice, from Venice to Ljubljana by train, 4 days in Slovenia and then back through London, daytrips to Dover, York and Cambridge, 9 different hotels, I needed a vacation after my vacation!!!

Kat and Lori

Windsor, Canada and Michigan

August 21-23, 2007-Windsor
Oct 13-14, 2007-Frankenmuth Michigan

I took a couple of driving trips in 2007, one to visit with the dynamic duo of Hansi (waalewiener) and Lori (Loripori) in Windsor Canada when Kat (Keida84) decided to visit.

Another short trip to Frankenmuth, Michigan with my husband, sister in law and niece to have some German food, do a little sightseeing and stop by the world's largest Christmas store.

Southern California

April 25-May 2, 2007-Los Angeles, Pasadena, San Juan Capistrano
Oct 16-23, 2007-Los Angeles, Pasadena, Santa Barbara

My Grandma, who will turn 100 in 2008, lives near LAX and my dad and I have been trying to go out there one or two times every year to see her. An added bonus is that my good friend Kat (keida84) lives less than 2 hours away from LAX so I always split the time between family and friends. We went out twice in 2007, in October for Grandma's birthday and in the spring.

Philadelphia/New York City

July 11-14, 2007

Just about a week after I severely sprained my ankle, I had a trip planned to Philadelphia to see family. I overdid it a bit when we went to New York City for the day so while the family went off to Hershey, I stayed home much to their chagrin, they thought my temporary disability was going to get them to the front of the lines for the rides!

Maybe the poster to your forum question just had a bad day. I'm bringing a co-worker with me as Sue is working that day.

Glad to hear that the weather looks pretty good for next weekend. I may be coat-less at Tre Kronor! (I wonder if they have a patio so we can eat our lingonberry pancakes outdoors?)
