My collections

by Rupanworld - last update: Oct 31, 2008

Barbie dolls are every girl's dream. As a child, I was not different. What is different is that this attraction never left me at all even with the passage of time. The only thing that has changed is that I no longer play with them. I just collect them from different parts of the world and put them up in my show case. I don't have a photo to display all my collections, although I don't at all have many. All I have is about 10 till now, but my love for them increases every day. Recently I got these three in the photo from the collection of "Dances of the World". These are: Brazilian Carnival barbie, Cinco de Mayo (Mexico) Barbie and Irish dance barbie. Recently I also bought a ethnic wear barbie from India that cost me a loooooot. But It's so beautiful that I have no regret. My daughter is definitely going to be very happy :o)
Another favourite hobby of mine is coin collection. I have some rare value old coins as well apart from coins from different parts of the world. I have collected a huge lot of coins during my stay and travels around Europe in 2007-08. During this time I not only collected on travels, but also partly from friends and acquaintance, and some from the coin museum at Stockholm in Sweden. One good thing about the course I was attending in Europe was that I had colleagues from around 40 countries of the world in my class. And once I made this fact known to them, some of them were really kind to bring me coins from their motherlands. And so I have coins from Serbia, China, Colombia and Israel although I never visited these countries, nor had a chance to buy coins from them.
Some people really fail to understand this passion. What's in a coin? They say. My Dear, there's lots in it. Well I don't want to explain. For me, the best souvenir from a country is its coins. I always bring some home. I do have some currency notes as well. All together I have 171 new and old coins from 40 countries, and 13 currency notes, mainly those from Russia, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, Kirgyzstan, Slovakia, Bangladesh and an old note from India and a paper coin from Kirgyzstan. I would love to receive coins in stamps from fellow VTers and I have lots to exchange as well apart from the above mentioned statistics.
One collection that I am really proud of is my collection of stamps from around the world. I have approximately 4000 stamps from around 130 countries. As a child, I was always curious about stamps, as my mother was a collector. I used to watch her. Then, sometime later, I started collecting too, and then my mother suddenly lost interest in collecting and I inherited her collection as well. Similar thing happened with a friend of mine, who too gave me all his collections. Today I am the proud owner. I have perhaps added more than anybody. In my collection I have hundreds of rare valued stamps. I generally collect used stamps but do have many mint stamps as well. I have also a good collection of First day covers from India and Germany.
