Roseamano's (actually Junichi's) Fishes

These are African cichlids which were introduced in this aquarium about a year ago. There are six fishes. Two are blue, three are yellow, one is mixed blue/yellow. One of the yellow ones was born here about 2007 November. They each have found, and stick to using their own private space hence all the rocks (they are really well hidden). This has helped to prevent territory fighting amongst the more aggressive ones.

Look for the baby fish.

It is said that this species of fish protects the babies by raising them in the parent's mouth. We have never seen or noticed this, not even when the baby was a newborn small enough to fit. The mother of this baby is not this one, but another pure yellow one not shown here.

Raising the baby cichlid has been much more rewarding experience compared to our past experiences of raising Japanese guppies. You might be aware that guppies "breed like rabbits" or rather worse than rabbits, as any mature female was always heavy, and any mature male was always being the skirt chaser. Their babies were too numerous to count, most got eaten (by the parents) anyway, and generations later, physical deformities such as bent back and decreased colour brilliance were seen more. Despite all that activity I actually only ever saw an actual guppy birth moment once.

Rose, the ruins are the reason we went to Cancun. I have always been interested in mayan culture.
