These spiders are about 5cm in length and are active at night. They build huge webs, this one was about 3 metres from top to bottom.
Look closely and you can see the web coming out of its spinerettes. |
Same spider. It's actually spinning the web in this photo - its rear back leg on the right is attaching the web from its spinerettes to the rest of the web. |
This web is about two and a half metres high, the spider is close up in the photo below. |
St Andrew's Cross This is the underbelly of a female St Andrew's Cross spider with a male hovering cautiously above her. She'll try to eat him after they mate.
Another St Andrew's Cross. Close up you can see the patterns better. It's a little too bright (it was night time) but you can still see it pretty well.
| | This is a cute little spider currently residing in my front garden. It is no bigger than 1cm. |
No idea what this one is but it has a very cool skull shaped marking on its cephalothorax. It was about 3cm long including legs.
It's eating an ant (that black blob under its "chin").

Hope you have a great day! | engeluna Fri May 2, 2008 12:41 UTC Yep- the tram was red with a cage on top. Almost completely vertical on the climb- all while you look down to the great void below. That's the one! Scary! But well worth the mini heart attack! And I did see the waterfall from the boardwalk. So pretty. | craic Wed Apr 30, 2008 14:40 UTC oh it is an apple roller - i thought it might be | olja1234 Fri Apr 4, 2008 19:58 UTC Happy Birthday from Slovenia! |
