Travels with a Fool - Part One

by garridogal - last update: Jan 22, 2008

Who can resist a Macho Man?

"Are you thinking of me too?"
I love taking photos to remind me of wonderful places I've visted, good friends and good times. However, I also love taking advantage of a "photo op" and creating something that will make me (and hopefully, others, laugh) whenever they see it.

This is my favorite TWF (Travels with a Fool) shot. It's set on a beautiful street in Leiden, Netherlands and the best part has got to be the expression on the man who was passing as it was shot. Who could ever stage that?
"Come here often?"

Leiden Inspires Me

Here's a shot from my first trip to Leiden in Nov, 2004. I spotted this gigantic wooden model and knew I just had to pose with him. It also started a tradition of photographing these models whenever I see any them. I've even had friends send me shots of models they've found in their travels.

Maybe you'll start finding them too.

Again with Leiden

A good statue is hard to resist but can we talk about this sausage?
Eat your heart out, Oscar Meyer
Hope I don't catch any flies!

But we already knew that....

Yup, she's got a big mouth. Between sips of champagne in Epernay, my friend Jeroen suggested I strike a pose with this post-card.

I complied.

Statues are the best!

And Aachen's full of them. Unfortunately, I was only there for an overnight. Fortunately, I found this guy.

I believe in lending a hand whenever and wherever needed.
"Better now?"
I keep looking...

I thought maybe it was like a kilt

I have no respect and here's proof of that in Hannover, Germany. If my brash gesture towards a statue of Martin Luther disturbs you well....sorry.

It was a good photo op.

And speaking of no respect

Occasionally I find a good photo op locally. This monument to the Democratic party lives outside of what used to Boston's City Hall. As proud as I am to live in the bluest state in the union, I had to let this guy get what he had 'comin to him!
"Who's your momma?"
'cuz I eats me spinach...!

Better living though photographs

By recognizing a good photo op, you can impress your friends and loved ones with your abilities and strength. When I visited Mass MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art), they had a ridiculous installment piece with exploding cars. I couldn't think of a better way to ask if it was really and truly was art.
