First sight of the pyramids, looming through the smoggy dust above unfinished apartments..........

Thin cows grazing between buildings.......

Small fields tucked into the gaps........

Litter, again, everywhere......huge areas of plastic and rubbish between blocks.........

Unpaved side-streets leading who knows where..........

Satellite dishes on so many buildings........

The 'original papyrus shop', the 'first papyrus shop', the 'ancient papyrus shop' and more..........

Smiling, waving men grinning from behind their sheesha pipes........

Children playing in the rubble......

'The canal has no alligators....what you are seeing are the bodies of dead dogs and donkeys..........'

Getting nearer..........

Friday prayers on the pavement, inches from the constant roar of traffic..........

Tiny shops.......women shopping...........Coke signs...............children.........

And when we arrived...........

Cars and coaches and camels and horses and horse-and-carts and people and police...........

Guards on camels (and yes, they will ask for money if you take their photo....be circumspect).......

Hooting and beeping and crossness as traffic tried to park.........

Immediate encirclement of the coach by camels and hawkers and men selling things.........

Visitors on camels, visitors on horses, inches away from the traffic, some clearly terrified (the visitors).........

Horses pulling carts of visitors, being made to canter up the tarmac slope..........

Bored camel-men hanging around at the back of the Great Pyramid, asking me for a fag.........

Bored horse-men racing their horses behind sand-dunes..........

Litter at the bottom of the boat-pits.......

Jaw-droppingly, stunningly, amazingly wonderful.
