Radisson SAS Daugava (Riga) Great location across the river from the city, with views over the river to the city
Rooms bigger than your typical modern hotel because it was converted from a Soviet design!
Great breakfast buffet
Friendly staff
My experience dates from the mid 90s, so I hope its still the same |
Le Meridien (Brussels) Top location across the street from Central Station (so easy access to + from airport), plus its just up the street from the Grand Place.
Lots of good restaurants within 5 minutes walk
Super rooms. Excellent buffet breakfast. Good "clubby" bar. Cheap deals at the weekend. |
Willard Inter Continental (Washington DC) Again, location is a big factor. White House is about 2 doors along! FBI not far. World Bank walking distance.
Huge rooms. Old fashioned style, but it "fits". Big big breakfast... |
Radisson SAS Amsterdam Made up of several houses knocked together, and uniquely, some rooms are across the street (underground passage to access).
Right in the centre of the canal district, but in a quiet street. Lots of bars and restaurants around.
Rooms very comfortable. |
Puang Pen Villa, Hua Hin Not luxury like the 3 above. Just a basic, friendly seaside hotel. No frills, but very relaxing.
2 minute walk to the beach, nice pool.
Real sentimental value for me - some nice family holidys when my son was small. |
Terrace Guesthouse, Istanbul Again, not luxury. Friendly and comfortable.
The decor is great - carpets everywhere. Location too - Blue Mosque if you turn left at the front door; Ayia Sofia and Topkapi if you turn right.
Wonderful view of the sea/Bosphorus from the breakfast room on the top floor. |
Porto Elounda Resort, Elounda (Crete) Lovely location, very pleasant rooms and facilities.
Stayed twice with my young son (he was 7 or 8 at the time and it was not long after my divorce) and it has some happy memories.
On the sea, with mountains behind. |

Hope all is well. | Penelope4 Tue Nov 10, 2009 06:49 UTC Iain, sorry to hear how you dislike Playstation because of your son (you see, my IQ got inverted after watching my nephews play Guitar Hero III). Be patient, Iain. Patience makes a kind father (hehehe)... | lindyz Sun Nov 8, 2009 08:38 UTC Hello Iain, you only have ONE (1) child - that is easy peasy!!! Life with 3 is sometimes quite challenging and frustrating, but that doesnt mean I love them any less :) |
