Sunset Views in New York City

by von.otter - last update: Mar 26, 2009

Sunset across New York City, Spring 2007
The impression that most people have of living quarters in New York City is one of a brick wall outside the windows. Sadly in some cases it is true; therefore the impression has some merit.

I am very lucky to have wide-open views from large windows that face south and southwest. Especially in the spring and autumn the sunsets can be breathtaking.

Here are some outstanding examples.
New York City Sunset, Spring 2007
“When I admire the wonder of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in worship of the Creator.”
— Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948)
“If I can put one touch of rosy sunset into the life of any man or woman, I shall feel that I have worked with God.”
— G. K. Chesterton (English Critic, Essayist, Novelist and Poet, 1874-1936)

“The sky broke like an egg into full sunset and the water caught fire.”
— Pamela Hansford Johnson (American Critic, Author and Writer, 1912-1981)
“Nobody of any real culture, for instance, ever talks nowadays about the beauty of sunset. Sunsets are quite old fashioned. To admire them is a distinct sign of provincialism of temperament. Upon the other hand they go on.”
— Oscar Wilde (1854-1900)

“Come, my friends,
’Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.”
— Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892)
“Sunsets in themselves are generally superior to sunrises; but with the sunset we appreciate images drawn from departed peace and faded glory.”
— George Stillman Hillard (1808 - 1879)

“The sacred lamp of day
Now dipt in western clouds his parting day.”
— William Falconer, “The Shipwreck” (1732 - 1769)

Bonjour et Aloha! How are things in Manhattan? All my friends moved, so now I don't know.

Von, my brother lives right across the street from the Biltmore and we often lunch there. It is indeed nice! Glad you enjoyed your stay in South Florida. Homer

Hello from South Jersey...! Very nice home page. Rome is a fantastic city! I have enjoyed all my European trips. The economy has been keeping us stateside lately. Wish I had my own wings so I could fly over myself...haha!
