The Wedding Journey - The Countdown

Unity Candle - Uniting Two People into One

Counting Down

Times flies. Before I know it, it's two weeks to my wedding. I've always thought that a small scale wedding like ours would be hassle free. And for the past few months, we didn't really do much. Little did I know that I was really wrong! All of a sudden, we were swamped with "must-do" lists like getting cakes for relatives, RSVP, food-tasting, printing of programme sheets and escort cards etc.

Of course, we were stressed with all these last minute matters arising. Despite that, we are seeing things starting to fall into places. Just last week, we had our food tasting. The food was good and I especially loved the steamed prawns. Yummy. At the same time, we were presented with a basket of wedding favours for our selection. We decided to choose two types - to be alternated between the guests. Now, the guests would have to fight among themselves for the wedding favour they wish to have!

RSVP is still coming in. We still have friends who cannot confirm their attendance. On the other hand, we are touched to hear of how our friends tried to make time just to witness this joyous occasion. My sailing mentor who would be participating this year's Starhub Laser Open, would be rush down from the competition site to my dinner after the last race - not forgetting he has to wake up early following day for the 2nd day of the race. Another good friend who has a mid-night flight to catch would want to celebrate this happy occasion - even though it means lugging the luggage to the dinner. What's more touching is Martin's best friend, who is going to be his best man, actually flew back just for one day from his business trip - just for our wedding.

The list of stories could just go on and we really appreciate each and everyone of our relatives/friends to take time off their schedule to attend our wedding. We really treasure their presence!
Eternity...

Tying the Loose Ends

Meanwhile, there are loose ends to tie. All our helpers and wedding planner met up today at the hotel for a rehearsal. We really appreciate all the advice and tips for the Holy Matrimony. We didn't know all kinds of boo-boos like dropping of rings, accidental pulling of veil and stepping on gown could happen! But the best advice - just relax and listen to what the planner and pastor want us to do!

I hope that we got all the shopping done for the wedding. Joelle, our wedding planner, got me some gifts for North America (she just came back from a month of skills/knowledge upgrade). In addition, I managed to get more gifts from Vivo City - they are meant for our close friends and helpers. And yes, she also got us our unity candle - it's beautiful. I love it!

We have also selected all our music for the various march-ins. Meanwhile, there's still other stuff to pack which we are too busy and tired to do. And yes, there's the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon happening next week. Perhaps, I should take a break and go for a run tomorrow morning. I just need a good break...there's still other many things to do like gown re-fitting, discussion of bouquet, collection of photographs. Let's not talk about it - I want to go to sleep now. *yawn*

I decided to take 1/2 day leave yesterday - since I would be busy this weekend again. Despite the heavy rain, I managed to achieve a number of tasks. First, I finally managed to secure an appointment with Yohei at Jeric Salon (The Central). Yohei is a Japanese hair stylist based in Singapore. I started visiting him for haircut only middle of this year. And gosh - he is sure popular and you need to make appointment two weeks' in advance. His clients include Singapore-based Japaneses and working professionals. Despite his fame, he is surprisingly humble and provides excellent customer service. Also, he speaks good English! Though the waiting time is long, he makes sure that he gives the best attention to you and does not short change you anything. He literally cuts your hair strand by strand and not by bunch! I did hair colouring also and was wondering why he made me wait for almost 15 minutes to even start colouring my hair! Later, his assistant told me that Yohei actually stood in front of the colour bar and pondered for a long time what colour to use! She even told me that he kept telling her that he "must get the colour right as the wedding is just around the corner - cannot get this wrong"! Wow - I felt honoured to be fussed by top stylist. And surprisingly, his rates are not ridiculously high. Even though, he used a special technique to colour my hair (which was much tedious), he didn't charge me extra! I am surprised that his rates are very reasonable and even lower than what other salons charge! And yes, Martin also has his hair cut by Yohei.

After two hours at the salon, time to rush to my next appointment - gown fitting. Good news - it seems that I've lost weight. Bad news - Michelle would want me to go back to her after this Sunday's Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon for another round of re-fitting before she could determine how much to alter for my gown.

I just realise that we haven't thought about what to do on Sentosa since we are going to be at the resort for 2 days!!!! To de-stress myself from wedding preparation, I shall go and figure out what to do on the two days at the island instead of tearing my hair over the preparation.

Amazing Race

Sometimes, when you are suffering from an adrenaline overdrive, you tend to do silly things - like running as though you are an Olympic champion. At the recent Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon, that was exactly what happened to me. Either the bread I ate was tampered with steroid or I was having a hallucination as a result of the hot weather, I thought I saw myself crossing the finishing line at 68 minute mark - a quantum leap from my last 10km record at Great Eastern Women 10K in October.

Of course, it felt good to break your own record. On the hindsight, I shouldn't have done such stupid thing - I should have just took a leisure jog to enjoy the scenery instead. Well, I am now suffering from a terrible bodyache and could hardly walk. I've never suffered such bodyache before in my previous runs. I had no choice but tried to get an instant remedy at a spa located in Raffles City area.

The therapist attended to me actually asked me whether I took part in the marathon and confirmed whether I was doing the 10km category. According to her, "if you took the 42 or 21 km category, you won't be able to go to work on Monday". Since Sunday from 10am to 10pm, she has been doing body massage non-stop for what she perceived "crazy souls" trying to complete an incredible feat. The therapist also told me about the Kenyan team staying at the hotel the spa is located. The team actually flew into town two weeks before the marathon, training every morning on the treadmill in the gym located within the spa! The body massage was good and that provided me some relief.

On the other hand, I am taking a half day morning leave to go to the Registry of Marriage to collect our certificate for our wedding this Saturday. After that, it's back to Bridal Veil for one final fit of my wedding gown.

And yes, special mention must be made to VTers loisl and Wild_Orchid. loisl got me a wedding gift from the well-known crystal maker, Swarovski. Wild_Orchid sent me a very beautiful card from Malaysia. Thank you to both of you! I really treasure the blessings!
Certificate of Marriage

3 More Days!

Yes, three more days! I just can't believe it. A year ago, we were just thinking the date was too far for us to think about. In a twinkling of the eye, the wedding is just around the corner!

We went down to the Registry of Marriage to collect our marriage certificate for our Holy Matrimony. This would be signed by our Pastor from New Creation Church. 8 Dec 07 must be a good date - we were astonished to see many couples waiting for their turns to collect the certificates. After the collection, I went down to Bridal Veil for one final re-fit. Yes, the gown needs to be adjusted to fit my size. No more running for this week - that's a stern warning from Michelle Huimin. Final fitting also means I need to wear my wedding shoes so that Michelle can "chop" off the additional length so that I don't end up tripping over my gown - just like what I did at the photo-shoot. Bridal Veil's gowns are made a little bit longer before the photoshoot so that if the gown gets dirty during the shoot, Michelle can just "cut" it off.

Meanwhile, it was a crazy day at work. Everyone knew I would be on leave from tomorrow afternoon onwards. The various Heads of Department were furiously emailing to their staff to approach me for any assistance before I go on my leave - in other words, I cannot just "disappear" without helping them to solve their problems!!! I've yet to brief my colleague who is going to cover me what to do during my absence. I will have to do that the first thing in the morning upon stepping into the office. Hopefully, my phone would not start ringing by then! *sigh*

On the other hand, I've been staying late these couple of nights, busy writing thank-you notes and preparing gifts for my friends and helpers. I just realised that I have not even written my thank-you speech! Martin was victoriously showing off his 1.5 page of speech to me this evening. Guys are just guys! I also started packing for my 2-day stay at the resort and for the wedding. It looks like we are moving house this weekend! *Slap forehead*

We have decided to increase our original 10 tables to 12 tables so that our guests would have a more spacious seating area. We also finalised our seating plan - we just hope to accomodate everyone's request and no one is being left on his/her own.

And finally, it's 11.40pm now. I better go and catch some beauty sleep. It's half day work day for me tomorrow. After work, I would need to visit my dentist for a good clean-up of my teeth and after that, an appointment with my therapist for a good facial. Good night.
Our Wedding Bands

One More Day!

I can't believe it. We are getting married tomorrow. I was extremely busy today. I woke up pretty early to start running my errand - first to do my manicure and pedicure, quick lunch, hair treatment, collection of gowns & flowers and a short final discussion with Joelle.

I've yet finished packing my luggage and for a moment, my mum thought that I would be moving house tomorrow! I had a short dinner with Martin - he too, is very tired and both of us are stressed up! Yes, pimples begin to pop up on our face and worse still, I started to have running nose. *sigh*

We finally managed to do up the seating arrangement. And yes, I am still packing and haven't gotten my speech written. We will leave the rest to our God. He first performed a miracle at a wedding. *grin*
