"Meet the VTers ! The "Meet-a-member-a-day" series" Personal Page by Norali

Living in Brussels, RL meeting with VTers was easy. I had attended meetings there & in other Belgian cities. Had organized some too. My VT farewell meeting took place in Brugge. Here, in Tana, have had very few meetings.

Anyway, when Giampiero, VT GM, launched the “Meet a member a day series” end September, I said to myself that this could be another way to meet a member: Virtually. The greatest merit of this series is that, for most & in my book, featured members are lesser known VTers who either hail from remote & lesser known countries (Asia, Americas) either have covered many of those far-flung places (Asia, Africa, Americas, Oceania)… As I use a dial-up for my connection & am not that tied to the PC (outdoors spell bound!), I started backing-up “Meet-a-member-a-day” threads for personal & later use. Today, 20-ish Misc. pages I have browsed to complete it from Day 1. Here is the list back-up (introduction notes included), for you to see.

The Prince of Patagonia, Carlos, aka Orkaena, is marvelous fellow I met in Santorini. Lover of life, traveler, and all around good guy, you will always know when Carlos is in the room. I salute his booming voice, his fabulous sense of humor, (I quote one of his great lines all the time) and his warm humanity. He's a pleasure to have around. This is Martin. I stumbled on his page one day while I was traveling (virtually) through Israel. I contacted him and he's a wonderful man and I have the honor of meeting him personally this holiday season when I'm in Israel!

Today's Meet a Member a Day, Epicult, aka Te, hails from Toronto, Canada, and aside from looking cool casually leaning on a helicopter (he recently graduated from Paramedic training) he's also a good guy and an enthusiastic South and Central America Traveler.

Todays Member a Member a Day - Sumtingwong aka Matt, is a pretty interesting guy. He's a student at my alma mater, Brown U, so he's pretty busy these days. But if you check out his pages, you will be amazed at the incredible places this guy has been, his great photos, and interesting, insightful write ups. He's still only a college Freshman!!!! Truly one of the most impressive members I've seen around. Last I heard he was asking advice for a trip across Afghanistan.

Ok; I wish to introduce one of my favourite VT friends. Anne (Xemx). She's nice and really cares her VT friends, perhaphs because she believe in true firendship. She's a good writer. Her tips are really complete and well written in my opinion. I had a first meeting with her in Venice some years ago. I would have stayed with her more than one day if I could.

I first 'met' bkoon http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/3f01b/ when it became clear to me that she had the best Laos pages around. (By 'around' I mean the best info on the country from a total web search!)

I've also met her in person twice, and earlier this year, I was honored to be taken in by her and her lovely family to celebrate the new Year of the Pig.

Bee is a great and serious traveler, and person. A fantastic writer and photographer, and, foodie (as are many in Malaysia/Singapore-thankfully!), a great addition to VT, and a very fantastic friend to have!

Today's Meet a Member, Firestar - AKA Faye, is a perfect and glorious example of why I was thinking about the meet a member a day. yesterday, I noticed a question she had posted about noticing someone wearing a VT shirt in Turkey. Turns out she had just spotted Claus (cachaseiro) on his way to a VT Hot Air balloon meeting!!

I took a closer look at Faye's pages, because I hadn't seen her before, and HOLY CATFISH, what pages! She has excellent, insightful tips, and cool photographs, and vibrant pages. She's been to some interesting spots.

She's also interested in getting a PHd in Global Media Policy at the Oxford Internet Institute. Who knew the venerable instituion had an Internet Institute? Fairy_dust's Meet a Member - Spanishguy

Everyone, meet Antonio, aka Spanishguy! He's from Seville, Spain and was the first (and only, so far anyway) VTer I've met in person. We met up a week after I arrived in Seville and during my 2.5 month stay in his city, we met up a few other times, he introduced me to his friends, and I had a great time with them, especially at the April Fair. Antonio is a sweetheart and I always enjoyed my time with him. Also, after I got robbed, he was one of the few people I knew in Seville who didn't imply it was my fault or tell me what I should/shouldn't have done - he was there for me when I needed a friend.

And look at his pages, he's got several huge pages on Spanish cities, towns, villages, etc. Everything from huge tourist destinations like Barcelona to little-known towns/villages.

Today's Meet a Member a Day - Supune (Technical Guru of VT)

Today's Meet a Member a Day, Supune aka Supun, is not only the Pride of Sri Lanka (once won the fastest Sri Lankan sprinter in Southern California), but also one of the technical gurus at VT.(senior software engineer for those keeping score at home)

Supun is a charming, kindhearted, and funny fellow, with a vast knowledge of hip hop music lyrics (hence his 'motto'), and an admirable interest in philosophical ponderings, basketball, and helping his fellow man. Plus, his full name even has more syllables than mine.

He's also become quite an avid traveler and has visited VT friends in Romania and Turkey recently with more in the works. We're very proud to have Sup here at VT, stop by and say hello, but don't bug him becomes he's up to his ears in work ;o)

Todays' Meet a Member a Day - kiwi

Howdy Folks... today's meet a member a day is kiwi from Kiwi land.

What can I say about this remarkable woman, whose streetaddress is burned into some of my brain cells (to send VT-meeting postcards to).
She dragged me into my first VT-meet (had to depart at 5AM to show up in time).
After that, I was lost forever to this website.
Our VT relationship has changed through the years but at times reaches new heights.
Rumour is, she has a secret VT-box at her computer to control VT, while Californian staff is sound asleep.

And pay attention to her mother's page as well.
Will I see the day to say: "Matamata, here I come? :)

He only joined last August so he doesn't have many page yet.
BUT, the most amazing feature on his pages is that on every single one he includes his family's experience in his travels. His writing is madly entertaining and to be honest he says the most terrible things about them but you just KNOW he loves them and they love him too :-)

He describes travel like this:

BUDGET TRAVEL- Of course! If we just stayed in Intercontinental, Marriot, Marriot, Marriot, I’ll probably never see the world! With the help of my mom we can do this just right.

FAMILY TRAVEL- Well, if you can survive my family (Which complains a lot), you can probably adapt to any family! Remember: I’m still a kid! So I still know what’s boring and what’s fun, cool and so on.

SENIOR TRAVEL- I enjoy senior people! Ever since I was small, I always loved playing with them and with grandma already? Wow! That’s a lot of work already!

BACKPACKING- The hardest part of backpacking is carrying the backpack itself. So, what do we do? We make it easier! We travel with style—roller bags, like the ones the stewardess carries along. But we still stay in hostels, guesthouses! (And sometimes, we splurge too!)
