"Fujikyu Highland" Japan Travelogue by sjvessey

Welcome to Fujikyu Highland...!

And what a job this guy has got. He stands there all day in the blazing sun surrounded by a dense cloud of helium balloons.

Go on, lighten the load, buy a balloon or two...

The bottom of the water ride... all looks calm...

Right up until the instant you shoot down the slope and hit the water, sending a huge spray of liquid absolutely everywhere. Including right down on top of yourself!

Onlookers in the observation area cringe and water cascades 15 or 20 metres through the area, soaking unwary bystanders who just happen to be walking past at the time. But so long as you wrapped up snugly in your white plastic shroud, you will have managed to stay (more or less) dry.

Ah yes, the Fujiyama rollercoaster. Over 2,000 meters of twisting steel pipers and girders. Do you really want to go on it? You do? Are you sure?

Like lambs to the slaughter, the unsuspecting victims of Fujiyama strap themselves in and begin their journey. 79 meters high doesn't sound that much. But when you reach the apex of the ride, and realise you're up higher than the nearby high-rise hotel... you know you're in for some riiiiiiddddDDDDEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAARRRRRGHHHHHH!!

Back on terra firma, with wobbly legs, tense forearm muscles and a sore neck after having had to support your skull through high-G turns, perhaps it's time for something a little more sedate. Doesn't that wheel look nice?

Up at the top, looking down, and that water looks sooooo inviting. Wouldn't you just love to dive off the wheel and plunge into that refreshing pool? Of course, it's only 30 centimetres deep, so I think it's a case of 'Don't try this at home, folks'... Maybe you should settle for going on one of the paddle boats instead, once you get back to the ground.

Naturally, no trip to Fujikyu Highland is complete without taking at least ONE photo of Mount Fuji. If you're lucky, you might even end up with a photo of a mountain, instead of a massive cloud bank...

Back to the old 'whirl-em-round-and-make-em-sick' rides again. This little gem rocks backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards, eventually spinning you upside down... where you remain, motionless, with your head pointed at the ground... Probably best to eat afterwards.

And finally, it's time to cool off. The pool was too shallow for swimming, but this one is even better. In fact, unless you wear a plastic covering, it's pretty much like getting into a power-shower with all your clothes on.
