JOVAN CVIJIC

Was a Serbian geographer, president of the Serbian Royal Academy of Sciences, and rector of the University of Belgrade.
Jovan Cvijic was born on October 11.1865 in Loznica.
When he finished gymnasium in 1884, Cvijic wanted to study medicine abroad, but his municipality couldn't pay his scholarship. His professor from Šabac gymnasium, Vladimir Karić, suggested he attend geography lectures at Great School in Belgrade. Cvijic did that, and entered the Nature-mathematics section of Great School. He finished his studies in the year of 1888. For one school-year he was a lecturer in Second Belgrade Gimnasium. After that, in 1889, he started studies of physical geography and geology at Vienna University with state scholarship. Cvijic finished his studies in Vienna in 1892, and in 1893 he defended his doctoral dissertation on subject "Das Karstphänomen" on the same university.
March, 1893 he became regular professor at the Philosophy Faculty of Great School in Belgrade. First he held physical geography and etnography lectures, and later only geography lectures.
He died on January 16, 1927, in Belgrade, at age of 62.

(February 17, 1742? - 1811) was a Serbian author, philosopher and linguist.
Dositej Obradović was born Dimitrije Obradović in the village of Čakovo in Banat.Obradović helped introduce to the Serbs the learning of western Europe. He and Vuk Karadžić, whom Obradović influenced, are recognized, respectively, as the grandfather and father of Serbian literature.

Nadezda Petrovic is considered the most important Serbian female painter from the late 19th and early 20th century. She was born in 1873 in Cacak and died in Valjevo in 1915, both towns being within the Kingdom of Serbia during her lifetime. She was also known as Serbia's most famous Fauvist.

Uros Predic (Orlovat, December 7, 1857 - Belgrade, February 11, 1953) was one of the greatest Serbian Realist painters, along with Paja Jovanović and Đorđe Krstić. Predic is perhaps best known for his monumental historical painting, Kosovo Maiden, as well as his many portraits

PAVle "Paja" Jovanovic

Pavle "Paja" Jovanovic (1859-1957). Was born in Vršac.Was the most prominent Serbian Realist painter alongside Uroš Predić. He is considered one of Serbia's greatest academic painters. He also painted many famous portraits. His works can be found in many European museums across the continent.

VUK STEFANOVIC KARADZIC

Karadzic was born in the village of Trsic, Ottoman Empire, near Loznica.
Karadžić reformed the Serb literary language and standardized the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet by following strict phonemic principles on the German model.
His first name "Vuk" means "wolf", which he was given because all his brothers and sisters died of tuberculosis, leaving him the sole survivor. It was believed at the time that witches feared wolves (as it is dangerous beast), and therefore the name would protect him from any evil they could inflict. Apart from learning to read and write in the Tronosa monastery, he educated himself. He took part in the First and Second Serbian uprisings against the Ottoman Turk's occupation of Serbia. After the first uprising failed in 1813, he fled to Vienna, where he wrote the most significant works of his career.Karadzic's reforms of the Serbian literary language modernized it and distanced it from Serbian and Russian Church Slavonic, instead bringing it close to common folk speech, specifically, to the dialect of Eastern Herzegovina which he spoke. Karadžić was, together with Dzuro Daničić, the main Serbian signatory to the Vienna Agreement of 1850 which, encouraged by Austrian authorities, laid the foundation for the Serbian language , various forms of which are used in Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia today.

PAVLE "PAJA" VUJISIC

Also known by his nickname Paja (July 10, 1926 - October 1, 1988) was Serbian actor, known as one of the most recognisable faces of former Yugoslav cinema.
Pavle Vujisic was born in Belgrade. He studied law and worked as a journalist for Radio Belgrade before getting a small role in 1950 film Čudotvorni mač. After that he tried to become professional actor, but failed to enroll in Drama Arts Academy in Belgrade.
His first major role was in 1955 film Solaja. He was never a star, but he quickly established himself as one of the most dependable and versatile character actors. In his long and prolific career he played many different roles, both dramatic and comical, and earned great respect from almost any director with whom he worked. He is arguably the best known for his role in 1972 TV series Kamiondžije (Truck Drivers), where he was paired with legendary comedian Miodrag Petrovic Ckalja.
One of the most prestigious acting awards in Serbia (for lifetime acting achievement in movies, awarded at film festival in Nis) is named after him.

MIODRAG PETROVIC CKALJA

Miodrag Petrovic , best known by his nickname Ckalja (Чкаља) (born April 1, 1924 in Krusevac, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes — died October 20, 2003 in Belgrade, Serbia-Montenegro) was a Serbian actor who was one the most popular comedians of former Yugoslavia.
He played in theatre, where he found talent for comedy, especially in plays by Branislav Nusic, his favourite author. However, it was new medium of television that made him famous. Starting from 1959, he appeared in many TV comedy shows: Ljubav na seoski nacin, Servisna stanica in 1950s, Dežurna ulica, Spavajte mirno, Saculatac, Crni sneg, Ljudi i papagaji in 1960s, and later, in seventies and eighties, Kamiondžije and Vruc vetar. Since late 1980s he retired
