My favourite travel photos (I)

by MichaelFalk1969 - last update: Feb 18, 2008

I have decided to randomly collect my favourite travel photos in a travelogue - the selection might change anytime and several of my favourite pics are not yet scanned, so this page will have regular updates. Feel free to comment anytime.

The first picture is from the Wilsons Promontory National Park in Australia, one of my favourite places in Oz.
This one is a shot of the high dunes in De Hoop National Park, South Africa. I liked the impression of emptiness and the contrast between sand and clouds.
This phenomenon is the so-called "table-cloth", a cloud-cover that arises in certain weather conditions and seems to roll gently over the mountains of South Africa from time to time. This one was shot in Franschhoek, but it does happen on Table Mountain, too.
This is Hajjarain, a desert village in the Yemen. The landscape and the houses looks "biblical", they could well be the background for a story from the Old Testament.
Another Yemen picture - this is Kawkaban. The village itself is not as nice as the photo suggests, but the view from the plateau is spectacular. You are virtually above the clouds.
This is the Hadrian`s Villa in Tivoli, near Rome. At the time of my visit, I was virtually alone - no other tourists. A very tranquil beautiful place in a wonderful landscape setting that mirrors itself in the villa pools.
A classic tourist pic from the top of St. Peter`s in Rome.
London Southbank - the Houses of Parliament as seen from the County Hall. I liked the surreal Dali elephant walking right through my picture.

Goodness me, no Eric Newby, the "God" of travel, or Peter Fleming (borther of Ian and a far superior writer). No Chetwynd, let alone Bryson. But the Jack London quote is great.
