Welcome to Europa - My 1st VT homepage (2004-2007)

by Mikebond - last update: Aug 21, 2007

The most beautiful continent in the world

me - but let there be no white area by 2030!
Hello! Nice to meet you! This is Europa. Welcome aboard! I will drive you across many parts of my charming body. The site is always in progress because I'm constantly changing, so have a look to it regularly.
Come to visit me and I'll show you everything I consist of: 49 wonderful countries, more than 700 million people, a long history and a lot of traditions.
Since multilinguism is one of my most particular characteristics, all the names of my countries and locations will appear in their original form wherever it is possible. If you don't know the English equivalents, you can find them here.

I have many pretenders...

There are million of people on Earth who love me and come to me in order to have a stable relationship, not just mere friendship or platonic love.
However, I'm not very happy with them because they seem to like only some of my faces and of the countries I consist of. They don't understand me thoroughly. I cannot get married to a man who loves France but not Island, Eire but not Hayastan. I don't accept that. I want my husband to love me as a whole. (The other continents will think I'm too ambitious.) I'm looking for a real Europhile. Will I find him?
I felt really lonely until...
Michele and I at La Défense, Paris

... but only one lover

... one day I found him. No, that's not well said. Rather he discovered me and started loving me with all his heart.
I'm really happy with him. His name is Michele and comes from Rovigo; he told me that his name means "who is like God?" in Hebrew (well, the answer is easy: I am like God!). He thinks of me every single day and whenever I feel sad, he also feels sad.
He has already explored many of my aspects and visited many of my countries. He's ambitious, like me.
He wants to visit all of me, learn all the official languages spoken on my territory and he hopes all of the countries I consist of, will become members of the European Union one day, including Türkiye, Sakartvelo, Hayastan, Azärbaycan and Mother Rossija. That's one of my biggest hope, too. By the way, you can sign a petition to push the EU to start pre-accession negotiations with Ukraine here.
Michele has odd plans for his future life, too. He would like to work for the European Union in Bruxelles or Strasbourg, to live in Luxembourg and to marry a European woman whose mother language is not Italian, so that they can have tri- or quadrilingual children.
When people hear about all his plans, they think he is a bit crazy, but I do not agree.
You know, Michele is also a poet, although he often doesn't have time to write poems. You'll be able to read them maybe. However, they are written in Italian and, although Michele is studying in Trieste to become a translator, he hates translating his own poems.
train Eurostar Italia

his other hobbies

My lover Michele, beside me, likes other things:
1) languages. He already knows a lot of them: Italian, Venetian, French, English, German, Spanish, Polish, Romanian, Slovenian, Czech, modern Greek and very little Finnish. He would like to improve in all of these languages and to learn many others (as I've written above);
2) books. When he has the time, Michele likes reading good books. His favourite writers are Agatha Christie, Paulo Coelho, Emily Dickinson, Oriana Fallaci, Jostein Gaarder, Giacomo Leopardi, Giovanni Pascoli, Oscar Wilde and others;
3) collections. He collects stamps, coins, banknotes, train and museums tickets and many more. Of course, he collects mainly European stuff. If you collect some of those things, in particular stamps tell him, maybe you can exchange them;
4) trains, metros and other means of public transport. He hasn't got a car but he wouldn't like to have one. Cars pollute and are dangerous (how many people die every year on my roads!), while trains respect the environment and can go much faster with little risk. Michele loves TGV and other high-speed trains but thinks the lines for commuters are very important, too. He always go to Trieste by train;
5) photographs. He's not yet an expert but he steadily improves. I hope I can help him by offering him beautiful monuments and landscapes to photograph.
