The Little Calumet River is barely a flowing stream here. Once great power shovels cut the river into a straight ditch. Today, the National Lakeshore is letting the river find it's own way. The banks are crumbling, riffles are appearing and salmon can be seen swimming in the deep pools.

Maybe it forsinthia? May be it's some other pretty bush. Each season brings with it a unique blend of colors and plant life.

Fungi finds a way into the darker and moist crevices of the woods. Sometimes, it's a easy to find as looking at a downed log. Other times, you'll have to move leaves to get a better look.

A trail runs for over a mile and a half (2.5 k) along the south bank of the Little Calumet River. In an hour, you'll see several small groups of birdwatchers or plant enthusiasts along the trail. Each group intent on the wild life around them.
