This one is in Strasbourg Cathedral. The casework is 14th century, but the contents are modern and disappointingly bland. |
| | Here's another one in Strasbourg. |
| | This is the great Silbermann organ in Marmoutier. For EU14.00 per half hour you can play on it. You can't believe how loud it is. Bach sounds amazing on this. |
| | Now we're in Colmar. |
| | This one stands in the Noorderkerk in Amsterdam. The sunlit Protestant interior was a revolution in church building. |
| | St John's Episcopal Church in Charlestown. I work here. The organ was built in 1870 and proves that size isn't everything. It has a bold sound with a heavy German accent, which pleases me no end. The choir are such slobs, leaving their vestments all over the place. |
| | This is the serene abbey at Pontigny. A monument of the first French golden age of organ building in a stunning proto-gothic abbey church. I find the busy stonework supporting the organ loft to constitute an act of vandalism against the purity of the Cistercian original. |
| | Thomas Dallam built many beautiful organs in Brittany, but the local architecture forces some odd situations. The organ is quite enormous in comparison with the room, and you bang your head on it if you stand up under it. The temptation to store junk under these low organ lofts proves irresistible in many parish churches. |

craic Tue Aug 19, 2008 13:52 UTC a bag of doorknobs is quite dumb | DonnaFL Sat Aug 2, 2008 15:43 UTC If it sounded like counseling, it means I should have written more in third person. I will bow out. You probably were telling your parent your plan and he thought you were asking for advice. A common error. | tolovajka Sat Jul 26, 2008 08:52 UTC Ok... this will be a very silly comment, but... Once I had a cat identical with that in your avatar! | staindesign Thu Jul 17, 2008 03:18 UTC Thanks for the help! I was just wondering what do you think east vs. west if i need to start and end in Phoenix? |
