Beautiful, Magical.....Annecy

Located in the French Alps on Lake Annecy this town is quaint, charming and beautiful. It's small medieval section is laced with canals and flower covered bridges. I only spent 2 days here, but could have easily stayed for a week. It was so pretty it seemed like a fantasyland.

Imperial Palace Hotel

Lodging Recommendation:<font face="Comic Sans MS"color="#000066">
This is a 4 star hotel on it's own peninsula overlooking the lake. Absolutely breathtaking scenery with wooded gardens, lakeviews, and majestic mountains as a backdrop. Has 98 large rooms, a restaurant, and casino. The restaurant is a bit expensive but it's worth sitting on the terrace overlooking the lake for breakfast or an afternoon cocktail.
About a 20 minute delightful walk along the lake to the old medeival section of town.
Nightlife Spot:<font face="Comic Sans MS"color="#000066">
Imperial Palace Casino. Pales in comparison to the casinos in the States, but seemed to be the place to go on weekends. Need to exchange currency for tokens.
Price Range:<font face="Comic Sans MS"color="#000066">
$$$$$ Paid about $175.00 per night, lake view (porthole, not full balcony) on off season.
More Info:<font face="Comic Sans MS"color="#000066">
Located: Parc de I'mperial, 74000 Annecy
Telephone: 04 50 09 30 00
Fax: 04 50 09 33 33
Getting to the hotel:<font face="Comic Sans MS"color="#000066">
If you pack light and weather permits, you can walk from the train station, approximately 1 mile, downhill. Or.....taxis are available.

Gardens at the Imperial Palace

<font face="Comic Sans MS"color="#000066">The sun motif is a rose garden.

Palais de l'Isle

The Palais De l'Isle is a 12th century prison located in the Thiou Canal in the heart of the medieval section.

One of my best dining experiences in France was at a retaurant (don't remember the name) located right next to the prison. We had dinner...a fixed price menu that included appetizers to dessert...food was EXCELLENT. And what a view! The prison and surrounding water was softly lit, with ducks and swans gliding by.

Flowers

There were flowers everywhere....on the houses, parks, canals.

Canal scene

The medeival section is full of cafe's, restaurants, ice cream parlors, snack & gift shops.

The ice cream was heavenly....with exotic flavors such as kiwi, mango & loganberry. Definitely not a good place to go if you're on a diet.

Chateau d'Annecy

Situated on a hill above the town is the Annecy Castle which dates back to the 13th century and was the residence of the Counts of Geneva.
Today, there are 2 museums within the castle, an art museum housing the collections belonging to the City of Annecy, and an Alpine Lakes Museum.

Rooftops

<font face="Comic Sans MS"color="#000066">Views of rooftops from the Chateau d'Annecy

Lake view

<font face="Comic Sans MS"color="#000066">We took a boat ride part way around the lake. Various stops are made at quaint little villages.
