Places I love ...
Deserts Mountains Waterfalls The sea Ancient places which speak to me of the people who used to live there Cities with soul
I also love ...
To see and get close to animals in the wild To meet people from different cultures and with different experiences to my own To try to capture the beauty of the places I visit with my camera To eat new foods and drink cocktails in a bar with a view To learn a little more each time I travel

| | Best trip ever?
The Antarctic has to be one of the most amazing places I've been. It's like suddenly finding yourself in one of those TV wildlife documentaries, surrounded by penguins and dramatic icebergs, and realising it's all real! And how do you know it's real? Those penguins do stink!

Or possibly this one?
Namibia is a really special place - stunning (and varied) scenery, wonderful little lodges, plenty of wildlife and really welcoming people. The Namib Desert is just as deserts ought to be - a dramatic sweep of red dunes and deep blue sky.

| | South America
I also love travelling in South America. Peru and Brazil are high on my list of favourite destinations - wonderful scenery, fascinating history, great people. And Chile is high on my wish list, as is a proper look at Argentina.

and North ...
We've had many great holidays in the US, from an early visit to New York City, to discovering to joys of the road in California, and since then to Arizona, Utah, New England, Oregon, North Carolina and more. Our most recent trip was to Wyoming - we visited Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, of course, plus lots of other places: Cody, the Devil's Tower, Big Horn Mountains and more.

| | Favourite cities
This has to be a close fight between Paris and New York, although it's a long while since I visited the latter (must go back soon!)
I also love cities with plenty of water, so San Francisco and Sydney are high up my list - both of them were places where I really felt at home. I also like Oslo as it has some of the same vibe though more low-key.

Closer to home
Despite all its problems London, where I was born and still live and work, continues to give me a buzz. Also in England Newcastle has become a great city: wonderful pubs and restaurants, good shopping, friendly people and all within easy reach of the sea and the hills.
