Ohhh how I underestimated the impression that Bavaria would have on me. The drive from the Netherlands to Wurzburg was quick, rainy and fun, but once we hit the Romatic Road I knew this would be a trip to remember. Winding german roads connecting the most adorable villages, each with a church spire and a maypole! Maypoles! Frischer Spargel on every other corner. Rolling green hills with picturesque valley burgs. Rothenburg is an amazing medieval city rich in history (complete with a museum of historical methods of law enforcement) and the place I had my very first schneeballen.

As impressed with Germany as I was, I nearly hyperventilated when I saw the mountains. Seems as though we just stumbled upon them suddenly and as we got closer my eyes got wider and my jaw dropped lower. Winding our way through the valleys, i think I said WOW a half a million times! As if this could get any better!! Oh wait, I spoke too soon, there are castles in them thar hills!

There is a castle in a mountain across the street. Correction, TWO castles. This is a killer view of both castles with cattle grazing the meadow. Talk about curb appeal, right? Just the place for a convenience store! Seriously...best shopping I ever did! Hello, there is a castle in a mountain accross the street!

Ludwig may have been cuckoo, but he had great style!!

This is a view from between the guardrails of a gorgeous winding road between Frieburg and Lake Titisee. I understand that Germans enjoy driving fast, but with views like this at every other bend, aren't they missing it? I loved this bit of road and would be happy to travel it daily, but driving? No thanks, I'm way too busy looking around!
