Ta Prohm Temple...
This was my 'article' on Cambodia that graced my VT Homepage for a few months...

The first country that I went to in Asia, since I'm being called a tourist !
4 solid days in the land of 'The Killing Field' !
Haven't even seen the movie...
Arrived at 12 pm on the first day & departed at 12 pm on the 5th day.
Now, Khmer Rouge is gone for good & Polpot is dead for good.
I ONLY wanted to see Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

Cheap air ticket from Air Asia.
Based myself in Siem Reap.
Busy town with red dust flying around, you gotta wear a mask.
Locals do, tourists don't.

Siem Reap is booming.
Thought that if I went there in September in the so-called rainy season, I could avoid the mass tourists.
( Rain doesn't scare me, tourists do )
I was wrong.
Koreans & Japanese civilians also hotch-potch their way to the temples !
No, not to pray but to take photos as well. Like me !
Trailing behind them were the male white tourists with disheveled hair...& their girlfriends with melons all sizes, by their side.

Angkor Wat is an ancient wonder of this earth.
1 day ticket, 3 days ticket, 7 days ticket, all are available.
There's not one temple but a lot of temples, all scattered around 100 miles or so.
These temples made a glorious empire when London was still a small town...
The structures of these temples would make all the big & famous castles around Europe look like a Lego set !
Imagine that !

Surely you can't imagine that.
If you haven't been there, you'll never know.

Every local in Siem Reap wants to make money out of tourists.
Very young kids to disabled people, included.
A motorcycle ride from the airport (neat & clean) to Siem Reap town is only USD 1.
Wow... so cheap ah !

On their motorbike, the locals don't normally wear helmet.
So, for your own safety you can bring your own !
English language is embraced by the locals although some could speak French fluently !
Cambodia was once a French colony...

Beer is dirt cheap !
People told me, no that I consume any...(cough!)
USD 0.75, is that cheap ?
If you do drink, don't forget Angkor Beer !
It's the mosr delicious, I was told.
Whatever that could mean.

You need a good skill to climb up those temples.
A pair of good sturdy shoes aren't enough.
Well, maybe a good stamina would help as well.
Each step is about the size of the palm of your hand !

Eating options, plenty !
You can eat by the road side while red dust flying around.
You can eat while the smell of urine emanating from the nearby bushes.
OR dine lavishly at nicely-decorated restaurants.

THE TRUTH :
The ancient temples are WHAT make Cambodia (not Siem Reap !)
so so so special !
But then to some tourists (you know who you are !),
cheap beer & prostitutes also can be considered as 'special' in Cambodia as well !

To put it bluntly, there's nothing to discover in Siem Reap !
It's just a place to sleep, to eat, to drink or maybe to get some sex disease !
If you're not play it safe...

I would love to discover more on this country; Phnom Penh, the capital as well.
Maybe up to Vietnam & Laos.

For now, I can say that I've BEEN to Cambodia !
These ancient temples below prove that !
And that of course would make me so proud of being there !

 Angkor Wat is one of the places that I would really love to see in my life, you are so lucky Arnaud! Don't eat too much birthday cake, you don't want to end up looking like a football do you! hahaha ;-)
