Photos From Around Melbourne

by Marpessa - last update: Feb 11, 2007

An art sculpture on the Yarra. I think this used to be outside one of Melbournes galleries - I'm not 100% though. It's different in shape and form, but I like it for its colourful nature.
Horses
On Swanston Street you can find quite a few horses and carts. A bit weird to see cars and trams in the city centre and then for a horse and cart to go by as well :).
Federation Square
Federation Square. While I am still unsure if I like the architecture here, it's a good place to come. When I was here today (11/2/07) they had people performing throughout the square. There was a man playing a didgeridoo, a woman dancing with a sword.

This is also a place to watch events of giant TV screens - like the Australian Open. Or like during the Football World Cup - thousands of Aussies got up in the middle of night (in winter and in the cold) to watch our guys play.
View from Federation Square
Cafes at Federation Square and modern architecture mixed with a Cathedral.
Buildings, roads, etc.
General city photo of buildings. Note we drive on the left side of the road here ;).
Burke Street
Burke Street - shopping, trams and lots of people.
Yarra river
Nice view of the Yarra River with the Rialto on the right.
West Gate Bridge
If you're coming from Geelong, to go to Melbourne you will more than likely pass over the West Gate Bridge. This gives great views over Port Phillip Bay and of the city (especially at night). Just don't stop as that is illegal (unless you break down of course).
