anecdotes - 1 2 minutes from landing at Vilnius one December Sunday, all the power goes on and Lithuanian Airlines flight climbs hard - eventually pilot announces airport closed due to blizzard, just as we approached.
Bump along at low level for 30 minutes then land somewhere (not announced). Turns out to be Palanga, on coast, where weather is slightly better. Terminal is just a shed, not suited to needs of international jet set... Wait 5 hours for weather to improve at Vilnius, watching weather get worse in Palanga...
Eventually we go back to plane across very icy & snowy apron, and when we get on, cabin crew offer brandy before take off "because we'll need it"! Land OK at Vilnius with about a metre of snow lying around (only centimetres on runway). |
anecdotes - 2 Checking in for BA flight from Sofia to Gatwick after banking conference. Man in front (ultra English) is very rude to check in staff because his favourite seat (1C or whatever) has been given to someone else, although he had requested it and he has a GOLD card! I can visualise his bags going in opposite direction, due to his obnoxious scene.
Little Englander stands by door on bus across apron, elbows his way off first, and sprints onto plane first. Then sits in favoroute seat, not allocated one.
Refuses point blank to move, and eventually captain has to come back and sort it because we are going to miss take off slot and face long delay. I think he got his seat eventually.
You meet a lot of 3rd class people in business class... |

Hope all is well. | Penelope4 Tue Nov 10, 2009 06:49 UTC Iain, sorry to hear how you dislike Playstation because of your son (you see, my IQ got inverted after watching my nephews play Guitar Hero III). Be patient, Iain. Patience makes a kind father (hehehe)... | lindyz Sun Nov 8, 2009 08:38 UTC Hello Iain, you only have ONE (1) child - that is easy peasy!!! Life with 3 is sometimes quite challenging and frustrating, but that doesnt mean I love them any less :) |
