The way I like to travel

Travel to me means planning. As soon as a destination is decided upon, I begin to plan. I do tons of research on the area. I spend months finding hotels, rental car deals and flights. Then the fun part starts. I look for things to do in the area we will be in. I scour the internet, watch the travel channel and go to the bookstore in order to find any information I can that will be useful for planning a great vacation. I tend to drive my husband crazy with all the planning I do. Now don't get me wrong, this planning is not laying out an agenda. I don't plan things by the minute or even by the day. I find things to do in an area and list them along with all the information that I can find, such as opening times, entrance fees, reservations required or suggested, amount of time for each attraction and proximity to other attractions in the area. I get a small binder and section it off for the different areas we will be in. In the front of the binder I put copies of all reservations and directions in order that we will need them. Once we get to a destination, it is as simple as looking in the binder for that area and seeing what there is to do. We choose the things that will fit into a day and, with info in hand, go enjoy ourselves. The next day is the same thing, look at the folder, choose what to do and do it. This takes the pressure off and allows us to be flexible in case of weather or anything else that might come up.

One of the most beautiful places on earth

I have been to Germany numerous times. It is one of my favorite countries to visit. The climate is great, the scenery is beautiful, the architecture is incredible and the food can't be beat. I have found I cannot get enough of this wonderful country.
Every time I visit Germany I stop in Berchtesgaden. This small city is in the southeastern part of the country about 2 hours from Munich by car. You drive through some of the most beautiful mountain scenery that I have ever seen in order to get there. People come here to relax and enjoy outdoor sports. No matter what time of year you come, there is always something to do in Berchtesgaden.

Hi Monorailgold I reread your journal on Venice, and your tip on Dorsoduro made me want to go back right away. We visited Venice last August, and Dorsoduro was my all time favorite. I am planning to go back to get to know Venice better. I loved it!

You were the featured traveler just now. I found your name interesting, having spent time in Seattle last month. Monorail?

Saw your name on member of the day early on a Saturday morning!! 7 months doing research sounds like my 11 months of research before our first trip to Europe last year.
