The national airline of Vietnam |
My flight from Ho Chi Min was pretty eventful - cash strapped Vietnam Airlines, which was my first carrier to Hong Kong decided to charge me US$ 900 for excess luggage – but after causing a fuss and negotiating for over an hour, that also meant to swing my plastered arm around at the end of the negotiations, the fee was dropped to US$ 360 – what an experience….
The onboard experience of the short flight included a group of 50 travelers from the Peoples Republic of China who were engaged in a loud conversation – with each other all at the same time, at times I pondered if they were also talking to their friends in the 3000 km distant Beijing, without the use of modern technology…. Fun was when the Vietnamese in flight meal was served… the discussion at 140 decibels stopped to be replaced by simultaneous slurping and burping, which simply left me stunned… where was the 6 Star ambience I had enjoyed for the last 5 months….
The aircraft I flew with was an Airbus A320 - the two pilots from their accents when they welcomed us were either Australian or South African.... Service overall was good - the only thing that was lacking was language skills, and it amazed me that the stewardess serving me could barely speak in English.
