"On the grounds of Hearst Castle" Top 5 Page for this destination Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument Travelogue by Dabs

The grounds of Hearst Castle are dotted with delightful sculptures, many of them old but some of them obviously new such as this one that has a flapper hairdo from the 1920s

Princess Leia from Star Wars was created a little after this statue was commissioned but the resemblance is striking....

I get all those Greek and Roman gods mixed up, which one had winged sandals? My research department, aka Kaspian, tells me that this is Greek god Hermes, son of Zeus and messenger from the gods to humans. Hermes' Roman equivalent, Mercury, who also has winged sandals, is usually shown with some sort of helmet. OK, that's the mythology lesson for today kids!

The gardens are a perfect place for a nap

What would a castle be without a few lions?

An impish child
