Virtually real: meeting other VTers

by tiabunna - last update: Oct 30, 2006

Iandsmith returning from a day's walking

Iandsmith

Ian and I decided to do a bushwalk to the Big Hole (yes, that's its proper name and you can even see it on Google Earth) and Marble Arch. Both are in the Deua National Park, not too far from where I live. Ian duly arrived and camped at our property, where we had a very pleasant evening chatting. Next day, he and I walked to the sites: here you see him at the finish of our walk. The story and photos are on my Braidwood page and travelogues.

Unravelau

When Pauline and I travelled to Brisbane, our route took us through Coffs Harbour, home to Carole (Unravelau) and Nettie (tapis_volant). We arranged to meet them at the Ex Services Club, in the centre of Coffs Harbour for a chat over a quiet drink or two. Carole came out and met us at the reception desk, then we headed inside.... In the restaurant, Carole introduced us to Nettie (tapis_volant) and we had a most enjoyable yarn over a few quiet drinks. Unfortunately Nettie had other commitments which eventually took her away, but we later had dinner with Carole at the Club - and a most enjoyable and late night talking!

We'd arranged to meet Therese (thedouglas) at a shopping centre in Brisbane, on our return from Caloundra and the Sunshine Coast. It was the kind of arrangement that can go horribly wrong, as she had to travel some distance from one direction, while we travelled 80+km the opposite direction. As we headed to our meeting point, I was accosted by a strange woman who said "Hello George". Trying hard to look nonchalant (as if I'm accosted by strange women on a daily basis - fame and all that), I replied something like "thedouglas I presume". Fortunately for me, I was right.

So Therese, Pauline and I settled ourselves into a coffee shop for a quick lunch - finally leaving several hours and many thousands of words later! Yet another enjoyable VT encounter: it's reassuring to find that the other denizens of VT Land we have met are not only real but also very pleasant!

Hi and dry so far George, but that could change. Every time it rains this hard I am taken back to a time in Bellingen (74) when my home flooded. I wonder if the fear ever really goes. Carole.

You're lucky you've still got hair, after getting it all lopped off, George! I love the old pics. T xx

Merci for the wishes George and Pauline; was out of town and out of VT for a beautiful autumn week in the heart of France. BTW, I hope the guy who cut your hair “paid” for it!:)))).
