St.Kilda, Melbourne

The Wild West

15th June 2006
Well this is it, after nearly a year away I'll be home in the morning. Had a great last few days in Melbourne going out with a girl in my room and met back up with Frank too, bought some lovely cowboy boots, well I've officially been a jillaroo so it's obligatory.
I sort of made a new album at the bottom of the page which I'll sort out properly when I get home and add lots more photos and stories.
See you all soon xx

3rd April 2006
Hopefully you can see from my travel pages the other places I visitied in New Zealand, finally up-dated these and put on a few photos, I'll get round to doing more of Australia soon.
After leaving I flew into Melbourne which was deep in preperation for the Commonwealth Games. I really enjoyed Melbourne,a nice hostel with lots of freebees, museums, art galleries, coffee shops, gardens. Decided to leave Melbourne early because of the rent rising from $25 to $40 per night to cash in on all the people arriving for the games. I went on a trip along the Great Ocean Road and into the Grampians to Adelaide. When in Adelaide I went to some wineries in the Barossa Valley and Kangaroo Island with lots of beaches and wildlife.
Now I'm in Perth, staying with a family friend's relations, realxing, going round the city, just booked a trip to Rottnest Island where I'll be testing out my new tent, it's so much cheaper than hostels- $8 as opposed to $23 a night.
I cut all of those!

Happy New Year

7th Jan 06
So I spent Christmas and New Year in Queenstown, we went to a friend of Monica and Grant's house for Christmas dinner- a bbq and ate out side, went to the beach afterwards, fell asleep and got a little sun burnt. New Years Eve we went to another friends house for a party and another bbq, had a great time meeting all sorts of Kiwis.
We had snow here the other day, can you believe it, snow in summer??! It's getting very windy and rains a lot, though the stream still hasn't ran, the earth's that dry. I've been planting lots for the summer, clearing land and poisioning various nasty plants and trees, we were even loaned some equipment by the council to go and poision trees on their land that we're reclaiming. Work on the extension's slowed down for a month over Christmas, but I've been sleeping down there seen as they have lots of friends to stay, bit chilly.
I'll be moving on from here soonish, planning on getting a life down to Milford Sound the next time Grant goes diving there.
Just before the ride

Shotover Jet

Here's Rob and I about to get on the boat. We were given the tickest from the couple we're staying with for Rob's Birthday. The jet was great, you travel on 3 inches of water at 80km's doing 360 turns and going very close to the rock edges.
I managed to chop only one of those

Look at that nice log pile

A view of the garden I've been working on , think I only managed to chop one of those.
Yes it did rain

It had to be taken...

...all be it in the rain on the first day I got to Sydney after a 'pleasant' overnight trip on the coach from Coffs Harbour.
I stayed here a week and did all the touristy things, only really liked it on the last day- went to some markets in an area called Paddington which was lovely and spent the whold night out because I decided there was no point in going to bed before my flight.
Though I met up with some people I'd met furthur up the coast and went out quite a bit and had a good time, I just wasn't impressed with the city. Getting away was good, did a walk to Manly Beach (better than Bondi) vistied friends took a trip to the Blue Mountains.
The 3 Sisters

The Blue Mountains

Here I am in my touristy shot.
Went here with two friends by train, didn't book an expensive tour, was a lovely sunny day, walked down the side of the Three Sisters and then got the 'Worlds Steepest Train' back up. Even the train journey there was spectacular, with great views very quickly out of Sydney.

Pirate Party

Here's me and some friends dressed up as pirates for my last night in Brisbane, we woul have won if we'd stayed long enough but our free ride back was leaving.
Port Douglas
04.09.05
Well I'm in Sydeny, in body at least. Got here at 6am after traveling from Coffs Harbour at 9pm last night, bit zombified now. And it's raining here too.
Coffs was nice, wet again, in the brief bit of sun went on a walk round the creek and sculpture trail, saw pellicans, herons, lots of sand crabs and a ray being harrased by a fish. Walked along the jetty and went to the big club 'The Plantation' where I had a good dance to lots of hip hop and a live band.
Free internet, woo hoo.
I've got a week here before flying into Queenstown, NZ. Have to use up lots of food before then, lots (more) rice and pasta for me.

30.08.05
Still in Brisbane, though trying to get to Sydney.
Went in to STA to try to change my flights, no one was at the other end of the phones and now the guy I was dealing with is off sick. I'm getting itchy feet and need to move on but obviously need to wait to sort out my flights, which for some strange reason we decided to fly out on September 11th, I know it's just a number but still...
Oh and after Apple having my ipod for 5 days have onlly just told my that they can't touch it because it's a HP one, nice.
I'm winging, it's raining and I've seen most of Brisbane.
Next stop Coffs Harbour later this week.

23.08.05
I"m in Brisbane! Have been for nearly two weeks but have been working at the EKKA (a huge fair/exhibition type thing) serving Lemonade for 11 hours a day. Got paid cash in hand at the end which was good seen as Nationwide have lied to me about accounts.
Only just getting to look round the city, went to an art gallery yesterday but only caught the last 20 mins before it closed, think I'll go back soon.
Think I'll start doing those round robin emails seen as I'm quite crap at adding to this, especially the photos.
Hope you're all well, just to make you jelouse it's winter here and 25 degrees, going around in skirts and vests doan't make sense.
My ipod's broken, feels like my arm's been cut off!!
Love Emma xxx

Getting a bit lax in updating these, will spend a while on them later, but for now here's a run down on the travel so far.
Mission Beach- wet and windy, but went on a nice walk up a hill, where I got phone reception! There's not much of it around here.
Townsville- lovely city with lots to do on foot, like climbing another hill- which in true Auzzie/Irish style they've tried to make into a mountain by adding dirt to the top!!
Magnetic Island- lovely beaches and walks through boulder strewn hills, saw wild koalas and Echidnas.
Airlie Beach for the Whitsunday Islands- absolutley fantastic- Whitehaven Beach is georgeous, the best snorkling I've done so far with so many fish surrounding you. Good food, and of course drink and company.
Mackay- went platypus spotting, saw a dad, mum and baby.
Met up with a friend with a car and now we're in Emu Park and are off to Great Keppel Island tomorrow.
Then intend on going to 1770 (yes it's a real place name) Bundaberg (where the rum comes from) Fraiser Island (entirely made of sand) and then find a job in Brisbane, think I''ll need a holiday after all this
xxx

Old stuff...
Well I'm here at last.
Slowly starting to build my pages.
Been traveling North through rainforests and palm lined, coconut strewn beaches. Croc spotting, success, and platipus spotting, failed. Covered in Mozzie bites and slight infections from crashing with coral, all stories to tell you later.
Went West a tiny bit to some lakes, waterfalls and to a Rodeo.
Tomorrow I'll be going South, next stop Mission Beach.
