Zemun is one of 16 municipalities of Belgrade
Long ago it was a city, and now the municipality. But whenever someone say Zemun, allways thinking of town, it is separeted (in some way) from Belgrade
Zemun is across the river Sava from the center of Belgrade.
This is a center of Zemun, the main street, which guide us to the center of the Belgrade!
Mostly it is opera on the stage but there are many others plays! It is situated in the "Glavna street"

Here is a Zemun's market. Many people say that it is the best market in Belgrade. That's what people say:)
It is situated near quay.Todays Masarik square was called The grain square until 1935 and there was market for cereals, pigs etc.Soon after the end of II World War trade of cereals was ruptured so on the place of Masarik square settled fish market and green market was expanded.
Today this place is asphalted, provided with workbenches and together with Youth square represents complex of Zemun’s market. Market has some 500 workbenches and at least that many of intermediaries.
To mark thousand years of their stay in Panonia, Hungarians raised monumental buildings in Budapest in 1896 and four more monuments were built in four towns on the overall borders of their kingdom.Zemun as the southernmost town in the possession of Hungarian crown was one of that towns.
Zemun milenium building was built on the most outstanding place of Gardos hill.
In the ruins of mediaeval fort from which today was left only angular towers and parts of defending wall.Tower was constructed by hungarian architects, eclecticaly in mix of the historical styles with emphasis on the roman elments. Tower was also used by firemen in Zemun as a lookout for a long time.Today Gardos represents part of Zemun which is complex for itself with its own cultural-historicaly heredity.Architecture of the houses on Gardos is different from the rural in other part of Zemun.According to its own specific standing, narrow streets with cobble and the tower, Gardos could represents significant sightseeing atraction also…
It is international river 2860 km long which well is in Svarcvald.Part of it is flowing through Zemun. Midlle temperature of the river nearby Zemun is around 12 degrees and the maximum measured was 26 degrees. In winters months, especially in January ice used to keep on the river, so sometimes it could be overpassed the by walk and even in the car. Zemun chronicant Simeon Todorovic wrote in his letters that winter of 1808 lasted until May 1 st. In this century ice lasted the longest time during the winter of 1953/1954 - 86 days and in 1928/1929 - 76 days and his thickness was 60 centimeters. Level of water in Danube variates depending on seasons and weather circumstances in the uper level of river tide. The highest stand pipes of the river are, according the rules in April and the lowest are in September.Since the September the1st 1859 there were everydays measuring of stand pipe of Danube nearby Zemun, twice a day, in the morning and in the noon. The highest recorded stand pipe after that day was 7,99 m above the zero point and it happened in April 16th 1888. In XIX century high stand pipes of Danube were followed by overflowing and it happened in 1838 when the river level raised the roofes of houses and in 1865, 1876 and 1895. The highest stand pipes in this century were recorded in 1907., 1930., 1940., 1944., 1947., 1955., 1962., 1965., 1970., 1981. Zemun. Zemun is often overflowed with underground waters which usually comes to expressions when the stand pipes are high and when there is plenty of rain. The most rainy summer in Zemun was recorded in 1926 when, during the period of june-august, altogether 352 litras of rain felt down on every square meter.According to everything that’s written it seems that Danube had negative influence to Zemun but it’s not like that.A lot of people praise its richness with fish.It has been always attracting fishermen from other places to come to Zemun with their boats and to settle here. One script from 1793 made by teacher Teodorovic said that on the Zemun grunt fisherman Lazar catched sturgeon which weight was some 700 kg.The last big catch in Zemun was in 1912 when fishermen catched sturgeon which was 147 kg and it had 10 kg of caviar.
