I first visited Leiden in Nov. '04 while traveling with my college roommate and her husband. His brother and partner live there and I had met them on a couple of previous occasions. They're great guys so how could not say "yes" when I was invited to visit them and then travel to Champagne, France and Brussels?

It was an awsome trip and I can't say enough great things about Leiden! It has all the charm of Amsterdam but everything's on a smaller and calmer scale. I loved the canals, bridges and winding streets full of historic homes, all the Artists' Studios and the fun and funky stores.

The day we arrived in The Netherlands it was bright and sunny. However, it didn't last. Because of this and all of our indulgences, I named this trip "The Fog and The Food".

Brian and Jeroen live in one of the Canal Homes in this shot and that's where we stayed! I loved sitting at the window and watching the canal, the bridge and the Swans that would swim by frequently. Right around the corner from their place is a hopping shopping street but you'd never know it as their house is quiet and peaceful. And beautiful too!

This picture was taken on the last day of our Fog and Food tour. We'd taken a last stroll around town before having a bite to eat then heading to Amsterdam to see Boom Chicago. I wanted a picture of me with the canal and canal homes in the background. As you can see, a girl could get used to a place like Leiden!
