It is possible to cycle without cars in the USA!

Bugs, Pubs and Pedals. The start.

Me - Claus - Stu, Chris is taking the Photo
After having a grand time at the Baltimore Virtual tourist meet. Claus (cachaseiro) ,Chris (Spacemanspiff) , Stu and I cycled from Washington DC to Pittsburgh on the C&O canal tow path and the Appalachian rail to trail . VT is a great site to meet like minded people from all over the world.
Here we are at the start of the C&O canal in Georgetown DC.
Falls

Great falls Maryland

As your cycling west on the trail you will come to great falls of the Potomac river. It really is a cool place to take a break and enjoy nature. I really didn't know that this existed on the trail.
Stu - Chris - Claus On the trail.

Pit stop.

Easy going

Third day Getting stronger

The first leg finished!

Day three... Cumberland Maryland is the end or the beginning of the C&O canal trail. This is where Stu left us for the journey.
Hands in the air.

Bugs

There were a few bugs along the trail that became annoying when stopped. Stu clued us in that if you hold your hand above your head the bugs will go to the highest body part and leave your face alone. It sort of worked.
Claus in a red neck bar.

Pub

Here is Claus in a red neck bar in Hancock Maryland. It was one of those times when we walked in, the music stopped and everyone glared our way. There are some interesting nick knacks on the shelves above the bar. $1.20 droughts are the norm here.

Pennsylvania

After a long grueling climb out of Maryland on the Allegheny passage trail we finally made it to Pennsylvania. As we approached the town of Meyersdale you can see the windmills in the background spinning away clean energy.
