Highland Dancing Shows

Military Tattoos

Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Scotland, 2002

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo is held every year in August on the esplanade of the magestic Edinburgh Castle, Scotland. It is a show of military band talent from around the world and special international acts. Each year the Scottish Highland Dancers perform, and in 2002 dancers from the commonwealth countries joined in to celebreate the Queen's Golden Jubilee. It was one of the most amazing things i have ever done. I will be going back to perform with the Australian team in 2007.

Edinburgh Military Tattoo- Salute to Australia,

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo- Salute to Australia was held in April 2005 in Sydney, and consisted of 150 dancers mainly from Australia, along with a Scottish team. It was held in accordance with the traditional Edinburgh Military Tattoo (a constructed castle st and all!). We performed on Aussie stadium which was bigger than Edinburgh's Esplanade and the dance took a lot of rehersing. 160,000 spectators viewed the show along with 1.3million viewers on TV. The dance was directed by Billy Forsythe.
I love these types of performances as it brings a lot of the dancers from around Australia together. I've met some amazing people and made great friends through dancing, and though we live separate lives, we can come togther, have FUN and create a performance that always seems to come together at the last minute, after tiresome and stressful days, and simply GO OFF! Can't get enough of the cheers.
Oman Military Tattoo Finale, from the observer

The Oman Military Tattoo, Oman, 2005

The Oman Military Tattoo was an incredible experience held in Muscat for the Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said's 35th year of reign and 35th Birthday. I have described the event on my Oman homepage. This was the first show that has been choreographed by Australian directors (Cheryl Roach and Amy Roach of OzScot Australia) and included Highland Dancing with some jazz and contemporary.

The Wonju Military Tattoo, South Korea, 2006

The Wonju Military Tattoo was held in October 2005. I was part of the New Zealand Team of 50 dancers which also featured some Canadians and one Scot. The shows theme was 'Music for Peace Marching for the Future' and was an incredible display. I learned a lot about the culture, between the 2 daily performances.

Scotland the Brave, Opera House Sydney, 2007

On the 17th of March, 2007 I will be performing in the Scotland the Brave show at Sydney Opera House. Tickets are $79 and available from The Sydney Opera House website

Edinburgh Military Tattoo, 2007

The 2007 Military Tattoo was my second perfromance on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade. 5 years had past between the two events, and it was an experience that highlighted much change in my self. The dance was titled "Diamonds"to honour the Diamond Wedding anniversary of the Queen.

Thank you for your kind comment re my photo, Shelley. Must admit I was greatly assisted by having enthusiastic 'sitters'. Just reading your HP, fully agree with your comments on Fosters and most Oz commercial beers. PS tried Coopers?

Hey Shelley couldn't agree more about Fosters..., very ordinary indeed. Clan MacKay on my paternal grandmother's side & shocked many wearing the tartan to our girls christening 10 years ago.
