"Yaz 2006 (Summer 2006)" a Turkbuku Travel Page by Alikatt

It's so cool that the New York Times' Travel section covered Turkbuku in its Aug. 19 Sunday issue. The writer even used 'St.Tropez' which I used after having gone to Turkbuku in 2003! The title of the piece is 'St.Tropez of Turkey' Like I haven't said that before. Ha!

This is my 4th summer there but actually my 6th visit. As usual, Ship Ahoy is the place to get my vodka buzlu with limon and nane. Vodka on ice with lemon slice and mint. My friends and I love DJ Metin who played our songs every single night we were there! He even played them last Saturday night while I listened to his live digital broadcast over the internet brought on by PowerFM.com.tr

Suite Turkbuku is our chosen beach club this summer in Turkbuku. We went to Bianca but it was always super crowded. Same with Maka Kizi so we stuck to our favorite, Granga which is now resurrected as Suite. It is right next to ADA Sahil. They serve bang-up breakfasts and the summer salads aren't bad. The coffee frappe drinks and lemonade kept us cool under the hot sun. The staff reserved our spot for us daily so we had shade in the afternoons. Awesome! Trendy crowd without the juvvy feel of Nana nor Maki. I like the fact there are two DJs that alternate starting at about 1 pm. One plays pure house and of course I prefer his music over the other who plays more tiresome Euro top of the charts. But I love listening to both, actually. The occasional Ajda Pekkan and Kenan songs make my frends break a tune or two. On our last day, even DJ Metin of Ship Ahoy was sunning in the decks of Suite right next to us. We had huge sunglasses and hats so perhaps he didn't recognize us.

Some of them are the same (Fidele, Mavi, Maki, Maca Kizi, Nana, People,etc.) but certainly there are those that have had a 'wardrobe' changes. Some beach clubs are sporting a hipper look and trendy summer colors this season. One of them is Suite, the former Granga. I love the orange and turquoise combo and the more open feel of the sun deck. See above. Cafein is now Buz Buz and there is another one (maybe what was Q Bar) is now called (the name escapes me now but will fill in later) Beach.

Bianca is 'the new' sensation in Turkbuku along with Supper Club at Ev Beach. Bianca used be known as Havana and Ev Beach was Tampa and before that, Safran.

We didn't get to go there at all but I heard mixed reviews. Will try next summer if it's still there by then.
