A La Claire Fontaine

by jakiline - last update: Aug 14, 2006

Paris Plage Fountain

PARIS PLAGE: temporary fountains

I was lucky to be there at the right time:
In hot weather, it is so nice to find these fountains and to fill in a bottle or refresh arms and legs!
Children have fun there!
Wish it would be the same everywhere in our world...
Place du Châtelet

If I were a bird...

I would bathe and drink, whatever
but I don't recommend to drink the water here, just enjoy the coolness of the spot
Press the button and water flows

Rue des Archives

The same kind of fountain can be seen at Place Olympe de Gouges (3e)
The architect mentioned there is Jean Beausire (1699)
Do not drink it!

Near the Cirque d'Hiver (11e)

(sorry the pic is not very good: I missed the bird on the top)
This fountain was made by architect Eugène Dejean (1821-1898).

The Cirque d'Hiver offers many shows all along the year, and there are little nice restaurants in the streets around, between Place de la République and Place de la Bastille.
Métro Cité, jardinerie

Wallace Fountain

There are many of these in Paris (I even found one exiled in Parc de La Gaudinière in Nantes, no water running of course!)

These fountains were meant to supply drinkable water, named after the architect, I guess.

There is another one a few steps further, in front of the bookshop "Shakespeare & Co".
Allée des Justes (4e)

Wallace Fountain

I found it first when walking down rue Vieille du Temple/rue du Pont Louis Philippe: there you can see the "Wall of the Righteous Among the Nations", inaugurated on June 14th, 2006.

"This wall bears the names of the Righteous Among the Nations who, in France, rescued Jews during the second world war, sometimes at the risk of their own lives... Their support contributed to save 3/4 of the Jews living in France to survive the Vichy regime and the nazi occupation of France...Their valor will light the way for future generations."
fontaine Ourcq

In rue de Turenne

This beautiful fountain is protected by a gate: we can't approach it.
It is not far from Place des Vosges...
Meeting Point

Place Saint-Michel

This fountain is famous as a meeting point in Paris, like the statue of Molly Malone near Trinity College in Dublin.

Jacqueline, I love your Mermaids Travelogue. The songs and pictures are wonderful. I can't believe you may move to Caen. Is it because of work? I just love Bayeux and am jealous of you there! Good luck.
