Largest City in the World -Agree or Disagree?

by debay - last update: Oct 16, 2006

Perfectly Safe and Peaceful

We used to be told that Davao City is the largest city in the world, based on area. Wikipedia says it comprises 2,443.61 sq. kms. whatever that translates to.

As the plane lands at the fairly-new Davao International Airport, one can already smell the fresh air and see the greenery of the countryside all around. The tallest building is only 16 storeys' high, no skyscrapers to block our views of the beloved Mt. Apo, tallest mountain in the Philippines.

Someone once commented that Davao culture is "rur-ban" culture which is a mix of the rural and the urban. It's a mash of different cultures but there is no clash, contrary to what everybody gets in the news. Our city is NOT dangerous, thanks to our beloved Mayor and his able assistants!

In fact, it was once voted the most liveable city in Asia. No typhoons in Davao, only thunderstorms and if they do come, they are usually in the evenings, soaking the thirsty ground with the needed moisture which contributes to the abundance of fruits, vegetables and flowers year-round without fail.

Distance from Other Major Cities

Davao City is approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes away from Manila by plane. There are more than 5 flights between our two cities every day.

It is 50 minutes away from Cebu by plane. There are 3 or 4 flights a day between Cebu and Davao.

By land, General Santos City is reached within 3 hours, Cagayan de Oro City in 7 hours, and Cotabato City in 4-5 hours. Many buses ply the routes between the cities in Mindanao Island where we all are.
