Caught by suprise My started feeling contractions around 2am Saturday morning. We were both caught offguard because we weren't expecting to deliver for another week. |
| I am Emily. Hear me roar!!! |
It's a girl!!! "It's a girl." the doctors told me as the wisked her into the examining room. Our second suprise for the evening... we were expecting a boy! Emily weighed 2.8 kilos and measured 49 centimeters. She entered this world dazed and confused. Initially, she was none too happy to be taken from the cozy security of mama's belly. |
Minutes seem like hours Since we arrived at the hospital in the middle of the night, I was the only nervous papa in the waiting room. |
All tired out... After being poked and proded by doctors and nurses and a whole lot of crying, all she had left in her was this big yawn. Save your energy little one. A lot of people are eager to meet you. |
| Proud Grandma marvels at her new grand-daughter |
Family arrives First on the scene was her Ba ngoai (grandma). She thought I had to be mistaken when I told her we had a girl, but a quick peek under the blankets confirmed it. Although we didn't have the boy Ba ngoai was expecting, her grin from ear to ear was a sure sign of approval. |
| Emily meets her big sister Connie. |
I'm your big sister Connie Our first daughter Connie was excited about being a big sister. She couldn't wait to see who had been kicking in mom's belly all that time. While my wife My was pregnant, Connie liked to put her ear up to mom's belly to see if she could hear the baby moving around. She also had fun stuffing balloons in her shirt to make her tummy like mommy's. |
Waiting patiently Our room was full of visitors... mostly grandmothers, aunties and big sisters, all claiming to know what's best for little Emily. When things finally quieted down, it was Daddy's turn for a little one-to-one. I'd forgotten how tiny newborns are. Holding her felt a little awkward at first, but it all came back to me. |
Long day done. What a long day! Coming into this world must be an overwhelming experience... so many strange new sounds, bright lights, warm hugs and painful pricks... and what was that? A sneeze? Wonder what tomorrow brings? Welcome to the world little one. Love, Daddy, Mommy and Connie. |
