One of the little new routines I have developed here in Lynmouth is catching the sunsets over the bay especially at the moment as I am usually finishing work just as they begin to get interesting. These pics were taken on Sunday 9th July, which was a miserable, drizzly, overcast evening and I almost didn't bother - especially as my new local pub is 20 yards round the corner. However there was something about the sky and the way the clouds were lifting off the sea on the horizon which made me sit awhile on a handy rock to see what would happen and this was my reward.

As the sun meets the sea, starting its journey down to visit our friends in Australia, this solitary bird decided to pose for the camera, almost as if conscious of the photo-ops it was providing.

For a good ten minutes the bird flirted for the camera,
sometimes nearer, sometimes further,
but always a silhouette, its species never distinguishable,
as the sun performed its nightly ritual.
