My Cycling Road

by jakiline - last update: Aug 10, 2006

Take it Easy

on the road again
Cycletracks or bikeways are not very common in France. So I am building up a map with "red/black/green/blue pistes", around Bayeux: red or black is for (heavy) traffic roads, green or blue is for QUIET COUNTRY LANES...

Of course I am not a sportive cyclist: it is a leisure activity to keep fit and enjoy fresh air (actually I do not do much cycling in winter).
So my favourite roads are not up and down hills, but flat ...as much as possible.
Easy Road for Basic Bicycle

"à bicyclette"

This bicycle is not fit for the "Tour de France": that's why I prefer easy roads.

Here I am on another road, back to Bayeux: there are little roads or even lanes that lead to Bayeux, and it is nice to avoid the traffic

Slowing Down

When you go cycling the way I do, it is to stop at anytime, and enjoy the countryside.
This is the church in Vaux-sur-Aure, about 8km far from Bayeux.
stop to see typical village church in Normandy
Hello!

Family life in the meadow

"Baby" wanted to talk with me, but "Daddy" was coming too near as well, so I didn't get into conversation...

(pity, my camera has no zoom)

Country Houses

I could see this house, hidden among the trees... and dream (I live in a flat, you see)
A typical country house in the summer
A self-catering House

Gîtes de France

There are plenty of GITES DE FRANCE around Bayeux. Of course it is better to have a car, but you can have your own bikes or rent them.
(see tip on Bayeux page)

Have a Nice Trip!

Normandy is divided into two parts: Basse Normandie, south west of Seine estuary, and Haute Normandie, north of Seine estuary.
Basse Normandie is not as industrialized as Haute Normandie (Le Havre), except the nuclear plant near Cherbourg .

So there are still many dairy product farmhouses, and here are the "landladies"!
Bye for now!

Jacqueline, I love your Mermaids Travelogue. The songs and pictures are wonderful. I can't believe you may move to Caen. Is it because of work? I just love Bayeux and am jealous of you there! Good luck.
