I noticed a lot of beautifully ornate street signs while strolling through central Copenhagen. Not just a few, but many - all displaying considerable artistry. Here are a few of my favorites.
Restaurant H. C. Andersen, Gammel Strand 44 |
| | "Reinhardt van Hauen" is the name of a famous Danish bakery that has been in business now for more than a century. You'll see several through the center city area; I think this was from the store at 22 Østergade |
Scarpa Shoes Well known retailer of fine footwear - Amager Torv 14, on the main shopping "spine"
| | "The Cook, the thief, his wife and her lover" In Danish, that's "Tyven, kokken, hans kone og hendes elsker" - and it's the name of this fine restaurant at Magstræde 16. Love the sign but knowing a little bit about the film, I don't know if I'd want to eat at the restaurant even if I had the kroner! |
Antique-ing in Copenhagen I'm not sure where exactly this Antique store is located - Copenhagen has so many! But I'm pretty sure that it was on Kompagnistræde - one of the main shopping streets in the central city. There are many interesting shops and boutiques on Kompagnistræde, and it's close to the restaurants of Gammel Strand.
| | Kleinsmedie & Nøgler "H. Olsen Kleinsmedie" - I'm not sure what this sign is advertising, though my guess would be some kind of medical procedure. And I'm not sure what the key symbolizes. I can't remember where this street sign was; I did some searching on the internet, but couldn't come up with anything. |
